21 Day Book Promotion Review Part 3
Hi everyone! I’m excited to continue on with my 21 Day Book Promotion review. Yesterday I was reminded or taught something I hadn’t considered in awhile, so that was helpful. Looking forward to seeing what I discover today. Let’s dig right in and see what’s in store for us!
Day 6:
Darn! I already have all this set up from taking Geoff Shaw’s Kindling course. I have it in my name, which is my author name as well. The video is a little under 6 minutes. The only separate thing I have set up is Blogger for fiction. Otherwise, I’m not separating it all out. I plan to branch a lot and I do not want a flood of social media to manage. If the time comes when I use a pen name (as I am with one genre I’m co producing with my Mom, then I will and have set up separate accounts).
I have to say something here. Part of me is grateful for the set up reminders because I’d forgotten certain things. But part of my feels like so far (and we’re only 6 days in), this is more of a setup course than a promotion course. I guess in my head, a promotion course is something different – more about building the actual buzz than telling what sites or platforms to set up. does that make sense? I’m not disappointed completely, just hoping that within the 21 days I find some good actual buzz building.
For instance, let’s say they have a step on building a blog. Instead of just telling me to build a blog and what elements to put on there, I’d prefer to have instructions on what to blog about there and how to create a buzz that gets my post viral.
Day 7:
Already done this during set up too
Well I did learn something though. I learned i need to save my video files. I HATE doing that. After it’s on YouTube or Vimeo, I scrap it. Yes, even after YT burned me once – I just hate the clutter of those files. But there’s a good tip in the PDF that I want to add to my to do list.
The video is a little over 3 minutes long.
Day 8:
Triple whammy – I already have this set up too
But I’ll go through it all to see if i pick up a nugget anywhere. There are 4 files plus a bonus PDF and 4 videos to watch. Makes it hard when you already know the stuff.
The first video is a little over 1 minute. In the second file download, I did pick up one tip about placement that I wasn’t doing and there’s a smart reason for it. I have a question. On the last file download, page 1, first main bullet point and 4th sub bullet point – are we allowed to do that if our book is in KDP Select? It’s my understanding we’re not, but I need clarification.
Video 2 is a little over 2 minutes. Video 3 is a little over 4 minutes. The last video is over 9 minutes long.
This is all basic stuff I already know. Might be good for a brand new newbie to online marketing, though.
Oh well, today was kind of a bust. I’m still looking for the “blow back my hair” promo tips
Hope I find them in the coming days!

Tiffany,
if you are NOT enrolled in KDP select then yes, you can do what day 8 indicates. That’s how I took the content to mean. however, if you are enrolled in Select then the answers are murky at best – Amazon’s TOS indicate you can not make the entire book available else where, but doing a google and amazon search I can’t find definitive answers – so I’ve sent an email to Amazon support to clarify the question. Once I hear back from the ‘horse’s mouth’ I’ll let you know.
best,
–Jack
Ah yes then that needs to be clarified for those who may not know. Let me know when you find out!
hi Tiffany
I may be on the wrong track because I didn’t buy this course as I am still working through the Kindling one, but when you have your book on KDP select you are not allowed to sell or give away a digital copy of the book on any other site. The emphasis is on the digital copy.
You can create a Createspace or an Audio file copy and sell that through Amazon too but if you want to use Smashwords or something like that you are better to write a free report based on some of the information in your book and use that as a promotional tool on SW linking to your kindle book.
If I am on the wrong track just ignore me lol.
Great to hear you are feeling a bit better today
Lisa
I’m all confused lol too early!
Lisa, how would you sell an audio version through Amazon if you didn’t go through Audible? And suggestions? I have audio versions of all my existing Kindle books and the only way I’ve been promoting them is via emails to those who sign up to get the worksheets. thanks!

OK – here’s the unofficial official word from Amazon in response to my question – can you provide a sample chapter on your website IF you are enrolled in KDP Select – short answer is yes – as long as its less than 10%.

Hello Jack,
You may offer a sample, excerpt or teaser of your KDP Select-enrolled book on your website, as long as it doesn’t include a substantial portion of your book’s content. Up to about 10% of the book’s content is a reasonable amount.
Keep in mind that a sample of your book is also available on your Amazon.com detail page, and we recommend linking to your detail page from your other sites.
I hope this helps. Thanks for using Amazon KDP.
awesome thank you!
