365 Day Challenge Day 13

Hi everyone! It’s day 13 – Friday the 13th to be exact. Doesn’t faze me. My Mom is doing me a HUGE favor and picking up Scarlett today because Shawn has a 5 PM Dallas (1 hr away) basketball game so I’m going to get them at the same time this evening. Gives me more time to work.

Where’s Your Confidence?

Before we get started, I want to talk with y’all about confidence. Yesterday when my Mom called herself a loser in her video and I heard echoes of others feeling that way (not to mention ALL the self depracating emails and messages I get from people who lack confidence), I decided to create a short video for y’all with my thoughts on it.

It’s very rare that I lack confidence enough where it paralyzes me completely. Sure we all have some self doubt but when it stops you from proceeding, it’s a problem! Watch this, then proceed with the rest of the blog post today:

365 Day Challenge Day 13

I got an early start – as in last night – on today’s tasks. I started building the Squidoo lenses with the content my ghostwriter provided. Now these aren’t officially my tasks for the challenge, but they’re something that points back to one, so they’re important for me.

Uh oh I just noticed something. When I outsource these, I give my ghostwriter a link to the product and 3 keywords to use for the 3 articles. No other specifics. But look at the DQ Blizzard maker, for instance. Read the lens – it talks about it in a positive way, when in reality, I don’t think it’s a good product! I don’t want to mislead people, so I’m going to have to fix this somehow.

Anyone have any idea on what’s the best route? I’m using these lenses as links to my blog for authority purposes, initially to get each page on the site found and to claim an extra spot in the SERPs.

If I slam the product on the lens hardcore, then there’s no reason for them to go to my domain. Hmm let me stew on this awhile and y’all let me know how you pair any sites like this with your own! Maybe I can add my own commentary to what’s been written – like disagreeing with it. Or simply have a bold note that says, “Warning: Real Review of This Toy Here (with link to my toy review) Disagrees With What Advertisements Like This Claim!”

You can see the lenses here:

Air Swimmers Clownfish
DQ Blizzard
Monster High Frankie Stein Doll
Crosman 764SB Air Rifle
Bratz Masquerade Dolls
My Keepon Robot
Volleyball Net and Ball

Well I was going to get a lot done but the only one I got done last night was the first lens – the rest I did today. My hubby came in and we both started watching Celebrity Wife Swap w/Dee Snider I had Tivo’d and being the headbangers we are, we got engrossed and then I went to bed. LOL!

I did some new product reviews (which ARE a part of my 365 Challenge tasks) here on my toy site because I wanted to get the lenses up and I needed them to be pointing to the right pages:

Bratz Masquerade Dolls

Monster High Classroom Playset And Frankie Stein Doll

My Keepon

Okay so I didn’t get anything done on my info product today but I’ll be doing that this weekend as I work on my Branding Challenge. So I don’t feel guilt! I got tons done today.

Someone has a readymade professional PLR site for sale

For those of you wanting a PLR site, there’s one that’s on sale on Flippa now – I don’t know the details but here is the auction listing: http://flippa.com/auctions/2677947/site – The site’s URL is fantasticplr.com. Looks like a professional site so you might want to check it out – the auction ends within a week but I think it has a BIN price too.

Someone verifiable got or bought your email to spam you – now what?

One of my subscribers is Honey Badger angry over a situation I want to share with you (without mentioning names). Basically, she got spammed via email. After doing some research, she finds this person’s product as a WSO and demands to know how he got her email. He says he “got” it – didn’t buy it, but got it from a fellow WF member.

She asks who it is so she can unsubscribe from him and he balks, saying sorry, no – he won’t get the other person in trouble since they’ve helped him so much. Then HE has the nerve to tell her to be polite with her messages or HE won’t help her. WTF?

Here’s what I would do in this situation. I would email/PM him letting him know the following:

1. I plan to contact WF mods to alert them to the spam connection and show them the entire conversation so they can ban his account if they see fit. I will also leave a comment IN the WSO comments that you received a spam email regarding the WSO from the person listing it and did not appreciate the blatant spam.

2. I will be filing a formal complaint with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission at http://sec.gov/complaint.shtml since it’s a financial WSO.

3. I will be filing a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Fraud Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

4. I will be filing a complaint with the FTC’s site at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

5. I would notify them that you will make it your life’s mission to blog about their lack of ethical conduct and spammy nature on every blog you can find – making it a goal to outrank them for their own name and warn people of their moral compass.

I don’t put up with stuff like this and you shouldn’t either. I would hope the mods will take care of it, seeing the back and forth conversation I read but you never know who is in whose pocket. He’s a new member so he shouldn’t be allowed to stay.

How’s my mentoring going?

I can’t speak for those I’m mentoring, only me – so here’s how I feel it’s going. One of my mentor students, T, is almost a replica of me in many ways with our attitudes and likes/dislikes. It’s scary how identical we are.  I feel she’s going to make an incredible leader in her niche. Her journey is almost laid out right before my eyes I can see it so plainly.

Another person I’m mentoring, G, is complete opposite of me in some ways (technical, different personal interests). But at the same time I have been where he is EXACTLY in my past in regards to confusion so I feel good about helping him formulate a plan of action. It’s a very different route from what I know so I’m hoping I can help lead him out of the darkness and shed some light on what he needs to do.

And the third person, A, has four main niches she’s interested in and we’re narrowing them down (she is). I see two that could really be blockbusters for her but I’m not going to tell her which – I want her to seek it out after much thought.  One in particular she could blow others away with.

Much of mentoring is guiding without TELLING I’m discovering. You give guidance and show how to figure things out but you don’t SAY “you HAVE to do this now.” That’s all wrong. I do have tasks for them to do, but they’re more exercises for brand growth and development of their niche.

So far, I’m enjoying it. I  hope they are too – I will eventually ask them for a blunt assessment but we’re not there yet.

Niche Idea

Found in my Bloomberg Businessweek: Stay at home daddies are on the rise. So more parenting sites geared towards dads instead of stay at home Mommies, maybe? They gave tons of stats about growth from 1970 until today. Google’s keyword tool says there are 18K+ searches for stay at home dad – and that it has low competition. Not sure how reliable that is but I bet you could cater to that niche.

New PLR

I finished a pack on inflammatory diseases. This spans many different specific health niches, and can also be fitting for the dietary niche and exercise niche as well. It’s $5 for 5 articles listed below. Order yours here: Inflammatory Diseases PLR

  1. Inflammatory Diseases – 409 words
  2. What Causes Inflammation in the Body – 430 words
  3. Foods to Lower Inflammation – 436 words
  4. How to Decrease Inflammation – 394 words
  5. Test for Inflammation in the Body – 418 words
I also finished an Electronic Cigarette PLR pack with these articles for $10:
  1. Determining Which Is the Best Electronic Cigarette – 402 words
  2. Electronic Cigarette Reviews – 406 words
  3. Is the Electronic E Cigarette Right for You – 415 words
  4. Purchasing the Electronic Cigarette Online – 412 words
  5. Thinking About Electronic Cigarette Choices for Better Health – 407 words
  6. Top Electronic Cigarette Reasons – 412 words
  7. What Is the Electronic Cigarette – 439 words
  8. Where to Buy the Electronic Cigarette – 422 words
  9. Where to Get Electronic Cigarette Products – 411 words
  10. Which Electronic Cigarette Should I Buy – 409 words

Enjoy!

    Hi Tiffany

Thank you for your timely comments about confidence. I was interested that you mentioned you were 40 when you realized that you could be confident about yourself – for me it was my 50th. I know I carry extra weight but I don’t worry about it. I know I can write well and that if I stay focused I will succeed in this IM thing. I am as good a parent as I have been able to be and I love being a grandmother. And if I do have a blue day then my overgrown lug of a puppy will always make my day for me. But I know that for me personally my confidence regrowth was a good ten years in the making and I wish everyone well on their journey with it.
In getting things done I had a productive day although not on anything I had set myself to do – so I will be burning some midnight oil tonight. Have a great weekend
    Lisa

  • I agree with you about what she should do with that person. Spam is not the way to go.

Thank you for your pep talk. I am one of those that doesn’t have confidence in myself. I know I need to get over it but it is hard to do. I have always been put down all my life and it is ingrained into me. I know I write good blog posts and, therefore, should be able to write good articles and PLR. I am really trying to overcome the lack of confidence.

I really need to try creating a video. I could try to talk about my beading and bead patterns. Now all I have to do is figure out how you make a video. I have the webcam and I know that is the first start. LOL

  • Dick Dunlop says:

Hi Tiffany, I went to your squidoo lenses and lookied becuase you said yopu had linked for SEO.
I tried to make lenses about 2 months ago but flagged it away because I could not see anyway to put a link in ..to help my SEO on various sites.
I have just been back into my account at squidoo and looked at my one existing published effort and also some unpublished efforts.
I still don’t know how you managed to put a link in your blurb.
Can see no referencing to linking at all.

Nice lenses and will get active on it again idf I could put one link in somewhere.
    How do you do it?

  • Dick Dunlop says:

My god I should have checked the typos on that last post

  • Alice Coaxum says:

You’re really on the ball Tiffany!

I think confidence is a struggle for many of us. In the past I used to feel like, who would want to listen to or buy anything from me and it would put me off for a while. Fear and lack of confidence makes for great procrastination.

For me now it’s a lot better but at times back and forth. Sometimes I feel that I’m at the right confidence level and then out of no where I start struggling with doubts that I really don’t have a reason to feel. It’s just me or maybe a bad day or experiences with haters etc.

It’s not to the point of stopping me completely but I’m sure that I could go even further than I am. It’s definitely a process but I know I can do it. Two things I am confident about is my writing and my ability to learn and apply new things. I’m trying to develop and keep my confidence in all areas of my life.

I love the way you described confidence. It’s not cocky and it’s necessary. If you don’t believe in you and project that, who else will?

I think about what it is I have to offer because no matter how many internet marketers are out there, there is only one me. No one is going to think, convey or create exactly like me and there are people who will and even now want what I have to offer.

That’s what I think about when I start to get in my “mood.” It keeps me going and I try my best to stay positive and listen to and read positive things.

As for the spammer, I would be angry too. I hate getting commercial email from someone I didn’t give permission to send me messages. It’s unethical to just give somebody email address thought I’d be more apt to believe it was bought.

  • Dick Dunlop says:

OK I have found how to link, and add html to posts….I did not know you could do this and no one answered a the query I posted in the forum on squidoo.

In case others have given up here and to save tiffanys time. here is a tutorial I found on a lens
    http://www.squidoo.com/basichtml#module1957980

Tells you all about basic html you can use to link in squidoo

  • Suze P says:

    Hi Tiff!
I love your attitude about confidence. Personally, I think I’m pretty damn awesome..LOL Not in a I’m better than anyone else sorta way, I definitely don’t think that. I’m not always super confident in my abilities, especially if its something new, and I don’t like being the center of attention and putting myself out there, but stepping outside your comfort zone is the only way you’re ever gonna get anywhere, so you just gotta do it.

I think everyone has a little awesomeness in them, everyone is good at something..maybe lots of somethings.. and it’s not about looks or weight or any of that, it’s just about believing you’re just as good as everyone else and you never know what you can or can’t do unless you try and put it out there..I hope you keep talking to people about building up their confidence and helping people to see they can be all they want to be if they just go for it. I love the saying “If you keep doing what you always did, you’ll get what you always got.”

    Uggggh I hate spammers!

On the DQ toy thing, I went and checked out your lens and the toy review on your site, and hmmmm. I don’t see any way you can make those two mesh. The lens is kinda all about how great the toy is and how yummy the ice cream is, and then you get the real deal on your review. LOL I would probably rework the lens a bit maybe, and try to avoid saying the toy is great or the ice cream is good, something kinda generic and noncommittal, sorta like “Hey, this is a toy that makes ice cream” ..and then put a link on the page in a black box or arrow link or something that says to go to your blog for your honest review. :O)

  • Hey Tiff, doing my check-in just over the wire (as opposed to just under it) – ah well.

I was a bit off schedule this week, but still managed to get my “light weight lifting done” if a bit out of order – which is why I read your entire weeks worth of blog posts in one go. LOL!

Getting off schedule is partly due to this large package I’m working on getting out – should be done by tomorrow, or I guess that’s today (Saturday) technically.

So, what I learned this week was: There will be weeks when sticking to the schedule is not doable – and that’s okay, but the schedule is a good one and sticking to it whenever possible is best for long term results.

I’m kind of liking how I’m gleaning a little nugget each week. I think I’m going to have to make a note of these insights.

Okay, so since I did watch your videos and read your posts in one go I have a few things to say that don’t necessarily relate to this post:

    1. Niche: Ever heard “You say toe-MAY-toe I say toe-MAH-toe?” Ya, I think the same applies to n-itch and n-eesh. ;)

    2. Your mom: Love your mom! It was hard hearing her call herself a looser too. My goodness! She has accomplished so much over the past year. Sometimes, just doing a review of all that’s been accomplished is a huge help. I know I too have the habit of making a list WAY longer than time will allow – and then I dwell on all I didn’t get done, but when I change my focus and look at all I did get done it helps.

    3. Confidence: From what I can tell, you and I have a lot in common – not just our first name. I remember my dad saying in an exasperated way once, “Why do you ask my opinion if you’re just going to do what you want to do anyway?!” Still makes me laugh honestly. What he doesn’t realize is that I do take his (and other peoples) input into consideration, but I make up my own mind on everything – and I’m perfectly comfortable holding an opposing position. Whatever. We can still be friends – that is, as long as your (and I’m talking the general you here) are comfortable having friends that don’t agree with you all the time.

BUT – I do catch myself having a temor moment from time to time – you know, like when you doubt something ever so briefly. For example, in one of your posts you mentioned having content rejected for being too formal and I suddenly thought, “Oh man, I wonder if my content is too formal?” Then I reminded myself about all the great feedback I’ve received from those who’ve purchased PLR from me and I forget those confidence-killing doubts.

Thanks for the great video pep-talk!

    • Tiffany says:

Yes! Just have the challenge as a guideline and if you veer off, it’s okay – but get back on shortly thereafter. I think many people aren’t comfortable having an opposing opinion. It makes them worried/nervous/anxious. Not me. I can be one against 1 million and I’m just fine.

  • Janet says:

Well now you mention it I have also had similar WSO emails from people whose list I am not on. I just marked them spam and didn’t think anymore about it. It can get very confusing when you buy a WSO and more than one person is involved so suddenly you are on 2 lists!!! Many of the names I don’t recognize. I am also very gullible – so when I see “you subscribed to my list” in the email I think I must have done that for a freebie or something and forgotten about it.

Anyway I will be more vigilant in future

    • Tiffany says:

And what’s worse is sometimes they use the fact that you hit unsubscribe as confirmation that someone’s monitoring that email, and they hit you even harder – NOT unsubscribe you!

  • Tom Parker says:

Hey Tiff – Just got a quick suggestion on the DQ Blizzard. Perhaps you could make the Squidoo lens more feature based and impartial? This way you wouldn’t have to slam the product on the lens and then you could have the links link through to the actual review.

    For example you could change…

“There is ice cream and then there are ice cream creations. Blizzards fall into the latter category. They are a creation that’s a work of art with ice cream. If you’ve had a Blizzard, then you know what a sweet treat it is.”

    To…

“There is ice cream and then there are ice cream creations. Blizzards fall into the latter category. They allow you to combine dessert mixes and candy to create your very own ice cream creation. Read how it tastes by clicking here (link to your blog)”.

    Tom

P.S. Is there any way to subscribe to comments on your blog Tiff? When I comment on older posts I often forget the URL and then it’s hard to find the replies.

  • Oh Gosh, confidence!

Always had a lack of it til I found you and some others online. It has been this past year (and I’m 51 [shhush, don't tell anyone])that I have realised that there is no need for lack of confidence. It has changed what is going on in my life positively.

Have to admit that I need reminding sometimes like today!

On schedule with my challenge items so feeling a happy bunny.

    Angel cuddles,

    Sarah

  • Tanya says:

Good Morning Tiffany! First of all I have to say that I loved your video on confidence. So many of us let ourselves get “stuck” where we are in life for the simple reason that we don’t believe in our own capabilities. I’m guilty too. Although my level of self confidence has gone up dramatically over the past few years I was still playing small-afraid to take the steps that need to be taken to get to where I want to be. The best thing I have done is to reach out to you! That alone took confidence in myself because I look up to you, and yes I caught myself whispering “you’re not good enough!” In just the short amount of time you have been mentoring me you have completely lifted that fog. I feel it’s so important for people to realize that there is always a way to turn things around, no matter what the situation is-IF they have confidence. IF they lack the confidence, they must recognize that and strive to work on that to move forward.

On a side note: I’ve learned to be a positive thinker, and I come across people every single day that lack any self confidence. I find it amazing how quick these people are to attempt to tear you down for your positive beliefs. On one occasion a man actually asked me if I sh** rainbows too-just to tear me down as if I should feel bad for believing. I simply replied to him by stating “yes, I do and it’s magical!” We all have to learn as you stated to stand up for what we believe and to never let our own thoughts be controlled by other people’s opinions.

Tiffany, I can truly say I have been blessed to have you in my life, both as a mentor and a friend. Thank you, for being you!!

    • Tiffany says:

Thank you Tanya! Glad a fog is lifting :) Someone today unsubscribed and said I rant too much. My first thought was, “Why yes I do – thank you for that compliment!” (Because I HATE things being swept under the rug and not addressed out in the open. Glad you confirmed your rainbow shit with him. I’ve been told that too – scary!

  • Good stuff, as always, Tiff!

    I have a request. Yep, it’s selfish.

The mobile website, app, SMS text field is super hot right now. Some PLR, autoresponders, etc covering these would be super duper. I’ll buy ‘em! :)

Thanks for everything. Without even the tiniest exaggeration, you are my FAV marketer. It feels so GOOD to trust what you say, know you’re a real person, and besides all that … I really like you!

    Best,
    ~Kate

  • Sydney says:

Tiff, I know that as a writer you want to be as perfect as possible. So in this sentence: “Doesn’t phase me” it should be ‘faze’ instead of ‘phase’.

    Hope I don’t sound too “school-teacher-ish”? :-)

  • Bob says:

    Hi Tiff

In regards to your DQ Blizzard review. I say leave it as is.
First, I don’t pay any attention to testimonials or personal reviews on a website, good or bad. To much of it is made up and meaningless. Besides, one persons opinion doesn’t make a bad product. That lens is designed to sell as well as provide a link. You are doing your review on the blog. That is sufficient.

Second, if you really want to show all sides, use the star rating that Amazon provides. If someone is interested in a product they are likely to click thru anyway. They can then read the amazon reviews. Or you can also copy a few of the reviews and put them in the description. This is allowed as long as you attribute it to Amazon.

  • Kater says:

I read recently where negative press is sometimes good for business. I say go ahead with your negative review and leave an element of curiosity so people want to click on your aff link and go find out more about the product.

Just sayin’… Consumers are a funny bunch. Sort of like kids I guess. Tell them it’s bad for them and see what happens. After all, a sale is great but a click and cookie is good for second place.

    Kater

  • Bob says:

In regards to the Spam issue, all you can do is ignore it. Spam is big business and you will never stop it.

I have quite a few email addresses. One of them got picked up by spammers and I was getting more than 100 spam emails a day. I couldn’t stop it in my inbox. However I am able to access it thru webmail. I set up blockers there and all email is dumped in a spam folder. I have to check once in a while to make sure legitimate email isn’t blocked. I probably get 300 emails there a day now. I think eventually they will stop when they never get a response from that account.

    • Tiffany says:

I think what irked her is that it was a WF member, not some Russian spam account – and he knows who gave him her email but won’t tell her AND had the gall to tell her to be polite about it! That alone would make me want to hunt him down and show him a thing or two.

  • Nathan says:

The video on confidence is perfect. I actually think that confidence is one of the biggest problems for internet marketers. It’s not as though there’s not a wealth of information out there, it’s probably that people are too fearful that they’ll fail, don’t have the confidence to implement the technical aspects and they there’s fear that it won’t be well received by people when they do get around to promoting themselves and their promotions.

People are a lot more capable than they give themselves credit for.

Any time I’m doing backlinking for a review, I usually give an impartial look at the features of the product. eg, the brand and whether they’re reputable, the warranty that comes with the product, where it’s made, whether the materials are safe, what age it may be suitable for, how it was advertised and where people may have heard about it, technical specs etc. I then go and say that the readers can then follow on to the personal review if they’re interested.

I also create pages (or lenses) that are more general and then link to products that way. For example, taking the toy idea I would perhaps do a lens about The Top 10 Food Toys for Kids, The Top Ten Creative Toys for Kids, The Top 10 Robotic Toys for kids. These get shared and tweeted and commented on like crazy and it’s always good for traffic. If I have a product where everyone raved about it but I didn’t really like it much, I would have a separate page about overrated products and then link to the exact review. Especially those products that are news worthy – they’re great because you can talk about the product, the story behind it and it can still be interesting without having to be an actual review. Then I link to the product review.

If you don’t want to change the lens that you already created, you can just say, “Click here for a more recent review – this product is much overrated” or something. It’s not dishonest and you’ll still get a backlink.

Anyway, I’m babbling! I’m back to working on my affiliate site – I’ve actually finally put some content up this morning! :)

  • Terri says:

Hi Tiff, Yes, I see what you mean about the conflicting review. Maybe you could break it up into positives (pros) and Negatives (cons)

You could change it up by asking questions like: DQ Blizzard Machine Makes Ice Cream a Treat into Does the DQ Blizzard Machine Make Ice Cream a Treat or Tasteless Tragedy? :-)

Dang wish I could “sh** rainbows” more often than I do!! Love that!

When I purchase a WSO I usually don’t subscribe to the marketers list. I purchased one related to Kindle creation, subscribed hoping to learn more about Kindle, only to have every new WSO thrown at me.

I have had emails from WSO marketers that I have never heard of too. I just sent these to the junk folder, but now, I am going to pay more attention and see if I can find out where they have come from.

A quick note about PLR ATM, which I did not exactly follow to the letter especially the domain suggestion. :-( I used an older domain, thinking that I would rank better because it was ‘aged’. Big mistake. The domain didn’t have plr anywhere in the url and it ranks like sh** and not the rainbow kind. Not sure why and since my other sites rank fairly well – I reread PLR ATM and realized what I hope is my mistake. I’ve purchased a new url with plr in it and will be transferring everything over. Headache! So hopefully that will help… lesson learned…

Ok going to watch the video now…

    • Tiffany says:

Another great tip Terri! Thanks :) On subscribing – many force it. Others don’t care if you subscribed. They can gather your email address and give it to others as this one did. Sorry about the domain issue. I have NEVER seen a perk in an aged domain personally. I have brand new sites rank right out of the gate :)

  • Agneta says:

I’m ingrained with low selfesteem and total lack of confidence. Always came out on the low as a looser all my life. Have practiced it for so long I can hardly see beyond it. It’s lifting to see I’m not alone.

It began to fade away about a year ago but there’s still a lot to shovel out the window. There are days I’m so low it’s frightening though. Had quite a few this week. I’m in a sickening tight situation right now.

Anyway, this is a great place to grow. I love it here. Thanks for creating it, Tiff.

  • Hi Tiff,

Well, I was married on Friday, the 13th. And we’ve been together 26 yrs now, so we actually celebrated yesterday. lol

The confidence video is excellent. You don’t just say to no belittle yourself, but actually “how” to achieve that. You start with having the person answer the question about “when did that start?” That’s often very revealing.

And then you step everyone through a whole process. I got a lot out of it. It shifted my point of view in business.

    So, thanks!!
    Debbie

  • Tiff,

I had a thought about the change you had with confidence. You said it changed after 40 years.

Was it a particular event that finally was the make/break for you? or just a gradual thing. What was the final impetus that allowed the change from no confidence to being happy with yourself?

If you are willing to share this, it may give some insight into “how” it happened for you, which would be very helpful.

Not sure I’m saying all this right. But I guess my thought is that there was some turning point. What was that?

    Debbie

  • You are the best!!

    Debbie
