365 Day Challenge Day 16
Hi everyone! Yesterday was fun reviewing someone else’s and planning my own membership sites. Today I’m going to cheat a little and pretend it’s not a Monday so I can keep on with my weekend schedule. I want to do more Chris Farrell review and more membership site planning. The kids will make their video reviews today, too.
Squidoo Lens Updates
Wanted to show you my progress with the Squidoo lenses I made to help the Amazon site get traffic. I check them out in Scroogle.org.
- Barbie Glamour Jet ranks #5 on Google.
- Creepy crawlers edible bug maker is #3 on Google.
- Monster High Frankie Stein ranks #5 for some long tail phrase.
- My Keepon ranks #3 for a technical phrase.
Confidence Class Site
Googlebots already paid my brand new site a visit! I love that. No need for spammy, black hat tactics. Just put it together right and get content on it and they will come. I also Tweeted it and G+’d it and Facebooked it.
I’m very excited about this site. Logging in every day to promote positive feelings is something fun for me. But don’t think I won’t get out my wet noodle and and smack someone with some reality on there too if they need it! Today I’m going to Barnes and Noble to invest in some resources if I feel like getting out. Might do that tomorrow – not sure what my lazy level will be.
Membership and video preference question
Let’s say you sign up for a membership site and you realize it’s primarily video. Which do you prefer – the person teaching you to be on camera looking at you and talking to you? Or a PowerPoint video where you hear the person talking, but you’re watching the PPT presentation on the video?
I like a combination personally. I noticed on some videos with PPT presentations, the lag between seeing something new appear on the screen is too long, so I’m sitting there listening and watching nothing really. And sometimes the person only shows on screen exactly what he’s saying – so that feels redundant. Now if he’s telling me that he’s going to show me a list of topics I can pursue and then they appear on screen but he’s not saying them verbatim, I feel it’s much better.
Feels good to change lives and inspire people!
I got an email from Patty Ravany today. She said I could share it with my readers and here’s WHY I want to share it – it’s not for kudos reasons. You all do that stuff in the comments here anyway. It’s to show you that when you go into a niche with your morals and ethics intact and teach good stuff, you change people’s lives – and you help them get rid of all their negative experiences. Doesn’t matter WHAT niche – just be the beacon of light for them and you’re going to get emails like this yourself. I’ll let you read it:
—————————————————————————-
Hey Tiffany,
Haven’t been on your blog for a while and missed it! Glad to see that stuff are going well and yup I agree with what you say in one of your recent posts, it sucks when people don’t get your replies yet blame YOU for that instead of inspecting their spam, trash, filters, etc. in their mailboxes first.
I just wanted to send this email and say mille merci… You really don’t imagine how absolutely awesome you are and the huge impact and difference you made in my life in 2011!
Let me explain…
I recently found out that I have been manipulated by this woman (http://ittybiz.com - Naomi Dunford) back in September 2011. She explained on her blog that she was the victim of mysogyn attacks by internet guys, stalkers against WOMEN BLOGGERS and was rallying ALL WOMEN BLOGGERS to fight against such stuff. She explained it’s why she wasn’t on her blog much because she feared for her life. The guys who stalked her supposedly threatened to take her life because she was having, according to them which she swore wasn’t true, an extramarital relationship with one of her colleagues online and so they both had to hide offline to protect their lives. I never knew about that woman, but a friend posted the link to her blog and it appeared on my Facebook wall and so I rushed to share it with my own friends with an “OMG” as a comment.
Trust me, I’ll NEVER do that again. EVER AGAIN in my entire (internet) life.
So yesterday as I check out internet, I find a funny blog and stumble upon this post: http://saltydroid.info/spider-shit-storm/. It reveals the whole conversation between this woman and her online colleague. It shows how she’s trying to avoid taxes, how she tries to scam her online buddy by selling him her website, etc. And it’s all full of “yeah this sleazy bastard” comments about other internet marketers and “oh I don’t have much money left in the bank right now” (while they supposedly teach people online how to make money online) and to top it off, she evokes making profits over charity by declaring “yeah I’m going to give MY SHARE TO CAMBODIA” (understand: nothing.)
That’s when I realized that I have been fooled, manipulated by this woman. Thankfully I didn’t give her a dime, but I remember sending about 10 bucks for her online friend/fraud Dave Navarro’s “goodbye” sale. Do I regret them now!
And then I remembered the original blog that linked me to this disgusting discovery and they praise you for your integrity: http://www.warriorforumsucks.com/2010/03/warrior-forum-guru-kelly-felix-admits.html
And that’s when I realized… Tiffany completely changed my life!
You got me out of this vicious internet marketing scam circle. You opened my eyes on the whole freelancing/working for others thing. You inspired me to make a change in my life, to take action, to get even more clarity – even these days I’m doing daily blog posts because knowing that you too do it totally inspires me.
You showed me that marketing an other way, selling products with integrity and caring for your customers was possible and doable on a long term and I’m totally in awe of you for this reason – whoever it is that you vote for, etc.
I just thought – I HAD to send you an email and let you know that thanks to you I’m now very comfortable and happy with sticking to authenticity, integrity and value-based approach in anything I do online, especially internet marketing. There aren’t many people like you and I believe if people don’t meet you (or people who have your values set), then they quit internet marketing completely after being scamed by the kind of this woman and her accomplice, which is sad.
So here you have it – thank you SO MUCH for everything you brought in my life, for the oustanding quality of your products and for showing that being authentic and honest was always the way to go!
I hope you have a great day,
- Patty Ravany
—————————————————————————-
I love that Patty opened her eyes and went out exploring for the truth. All you have to do is stand up for what you feel is right – not what anyone else thinks is right. For example, on that WF Sucks post, some anonymous person is irritated that I now promote Bring the Fresh after my initial post slamming Kelly Felix.
The comment is meant to shame me or make me feel scummy for backpedaling. Not gonna work! Know why? Because I know what unfolded. I thought “Rich Jerk” was a rip off. No valuable information. Kelly claimed he turned over a new leaf and had a good product. I didn’t kiss his ass because he’s contacted me – I bought the product and implemented it in a thorough review and the damn thing worked, so I shared it with my readers as a viable resource. Period. End of story. And he WAS answering emails and participating in the forum, etc. So I stand behind my decision to promote it without any regrets – sorry if some people don’t like that. Don’t buy it then.
But you’re never ever going to make ME feel ashamed for any decisions I make in business because everything I do comes from a good place of wanting to help others. I even tell people not to buy Full Disclosure and stick to Core because that’s all they need. As an affiliate, I could make much more recommending FD but I don’t – why? It’s not necessary in my opinion. It’s the truth!
Anyhoo that’s the way I operate.
Tiff

Hi Tiff
just got back from a fun filled day at school (teaching) and my feet hurt, my kid needs a bath and I’m so tired I could sleep on twigs! Logged on and there’s your email..and in some mysterious way you sent a good vibe..my youngest has sorted out his own bath..my eldest is cooking dinner.. and the coffee just kicked in!
Just wanted to say..the ethical way feels lonely sometimes..and it is so good to have honest company!
On a technical note..your confidence link leads to chris farrell review! Please fix cos I so want to read about this site.
Read the CF review..and am glad you have the same opinion..he seems like such a good guy, but I came across him right at the start of my internet journey and then got burned by one of the bad guys, so sort of lost faith!
Have been back to the site and his videos have helped sort out some tricky tech issues that had me baffled!
I wanted to ask you about squidoo..what do you think the best approach for a total newbie would be? I am dipping toe in twitter and gaining confidence from branding challenge but squidoo leaves me kind of lost.
Keep up the good work Tiff..quick question..do you have affiliates of your own? people who promote your products?
Thanks for seriously improving my day..though I may still need another shot of caffeine!
Sarah
I fixed it here: Not sure where it went but here it is now:
http://www.tiffanydow.com/blog/launch-of-new-website-on-confidence-building/
On Squidoo, go to tiffanydow.com and scroll down and find the 52 on Squidoo guide – it’s free. Start there
And yes I have affiliates who promote my PLR and my info products.
Thanks Tiff!
am starting my Squidoo education straight away..your membership site sounds uber cool…and would love to be one of your affilates, but think I need to make sure I have a Tiff Dow approved site before asking..so will go and work hard and then send you a link to see if I make the grade!
Once again, thanks!
Sarah
Great post, Tiff. I agree with you about liking a combination of seeing the person and the ppt slides. I agree if the words are somewhat different than what I am reading. If all I wanted was what was on the slide, why listen to what he has to say. I will be looking at your Confidence site as soon as I finish this. I can really use it. You are really great, Tiff.
thanks Gma
holy sheet-balls!! How unhappy is she that that VERY private conversation via messenger got printed on a very public website. YIKES. sure makes you think.
p.s. Dave Navarro’s family is nuts. You should google (if you haven’t already) his brother’s site quoting the bible and the VIDEOS – holy smokes. I would be furious with him. Dave wants out of his marriage and this is what his family does. no wonder he shut down his operation. BANANAS!!!
thanks for the links – I never saw the salty droid follow up.
psss. I love what he says about the syndicate. but, he is wrong about the internet not being a place to make money. You obviously can, but there are sooo many unethical scammers that take advantage of things
pspspspsp. (sorry this is so long) and if you haven’t read all the droids info on the whole stompernet andy jenkins breakup-it is AMAZING!!! you have got to go over the excel spreadsheet on how much the OWED all their affiliates who contantly pushed the site with the email lists. INTERESTING!!! and read the lawsuit paper. his partner took (stole) $$$$$ and his wife shut him down – it reads like a soap opera.
I know – bet she’s livid.
You asked about delivery methods. When I eas a college lecturer I always made sure my powerpoints consisted of a max 4 bullett points. No explanation just a bullett point.
The object being that I would talk about each point and elaborate. That was teaching. Reading something and trying to listen at the same time never works as I read real fast and it isn’t teaching. I used to make handouts of the slides with places next to each for the students to add additional notes.
Maybe that will help, I dunno, use it or ignore it. No problem.
One slide I particularly liked with Chris was he was talking about niches and said something like “On your screen you’ll see several niches in this area” and he spoke as they appeared one by one and it was really neat and interactive feeling.
@Delivery methods: I’m a visual learner but primarily like to read stuff. I don’t mind video and highly prefer the person-presentation-mixture (or screen capture with verbal instructions on technical stuff). But I LOVE to have a sort of check list or small handout to go with the videos if they’re longer, so I can scan along and scribble down notes next to the important points, etc. It just helps me focus and sums it all up.
What I don’t like is people simply “reading” their slides… I could save 80% of that time and just go though it myself, if they don’t have anything to add they should just post it as is.
That’s some good research by Patty. It’s always a good idea to dig a little deeper and get to know the people you want to follow. After all you’ll want to know where they will lead you.
One thing I like most about you is your backpedaling LOL! You don’t mind changing your opinion if you see that the facts are different than you first thought. There’s nothing scummy about that, on the contrary! It takes guts to do that!
lol agree!
Videos….Best for me is to see the power point presentation and the presenter in a separate box out of the way in one corner….
Ah I forgot about that combination! I need to figure out how to do that again – I knew it once upon a time and forgot. LOL
I HATE that stupid box in the corner with the presenter…I can’t stop looking at it! Talking about BTF, I bought the FD (through your affiliate link), and Mike Long’s video presentations were just so frustrating. I mean, who has an hour and a half to listen to him waffle on and on with nothing but his face in the corner. I actually got a post-it and stuck it over his face, it was so irritating…lol! I like short, informative videos and text. If I’m going to spend and hour and a half watching a video it’s gonna be something from the rental store!
But, touching on something you said yesterday, I did get annoyed when Mike Long started talking politics in his BTF vids. I paid over $400 for BTF FD and it sure wasn’t to listen to him indulge himself and give me a lecture on his political viewpoints. Strictly business only please when I’m paying for it.
Hmmm…I just unsubscribed from a recommended membership site because it was 90% videos. At the time, most of my computer learning time was while I was driving so I was tethering to the net via my phone (makes it next to impossible to play videos)!! I wasn’t learning anything because I’d only have a few hours on the weekend to go thru them, and that was my time I had set aside to do my actual work (posting, building, graphics)…stuff that I CAN’T do while driving.
Having said that, I know that a lot more people like videos nowadays so it’s a good idea for you to cater that direction. I do like the idea of powerpoint/live person combo though since it kees my attention longer.
For training info, having a checklist to print out is good because it allows me to focus while listening to the video, rather than taking notes and missing stuff.
