Affiliate Product Promotion Case Study
So it’s 3:30 AM and I’m awake with my little girl, who has been sick, and I’m floating around the Warrior Forum. I stumble upon a thread about affiliate promotions versus promoting your own product. I don’t know why people don’t do both. Well, yes I do – preferences! For some, sharing what you feel passionate about and the info product creation process is fulfilling. For others, simply making the most amount of money without having to share in the administrative details is what does it for them.
I do both and have had wonderful results with both. But to me, it’s much harder to find a good affiliate product to promote than it is to create one myself. Usually, either the writing isn’t up to par, the sales page sucks, or the affiliate product owner doesn’t do his or her part to provide any tools for promotions.
Once you have a great product, however, it should be easy, right?
I’m going to take you along on a case study of how I promote an affiliate product that meets all 3 of my requirements. It’s a popular affiliate product called the Magic of Making Up (MOMU as it’s commonly known) and it’s by a man named T-Dub (aka: Internet Marketer Travis Sago, of Bum Marketing fame). I know personally that Travis cares what goes into his products. This is important to me. The writing of the Magic of Making Up is stellar. The sales page? Awesome. The affiliate tools? If he did anymore, he’d be driving traffic to your offers FOR you.
So this is what I’m going to do – a step-by-step case study of how I tap into this niche. Let’s hope I make some money because it’s not a niche I’m familiar with at all. I’ll be using some of Sago’s affiliate tools plus some I create on my own.
Follow along and interact with me in the comments section!

Tiffany,
I was sorry to read that your daughter is having heart trouble.
while you research for your daughter, you might find that you know enough about heart problems to create a product about it.
I once went through a tough phase in my life that ended up with my becoming very knowledgeable about a certain subject.. (not business credit)
wishing you and your family all the best!
This is true! Right now, the problem is she has “fluttering” that starts in the chest and goes all over (brain, legs etc). She’s running a low grade fever at times, too. Like 100.4. These flutters come in clusters, waking her up even. She’s primarily scared (no pain) but it’s heart wrenching. Her heart rate has been captured at 145-215. Just confusing!

Tiffany, I am SOOO sorry to hear this, and will keep you and your daughter and family in my heart, sending good energy… It’s also interesting to follow your thinking on this issue of how/what to market based on your experience. I for one have decided I’m NOT interested in creating my own product – at least not in the “make money” niche. I am giving up network marketing (mlm) to concentrate on just plain affiliate marketing and it feels good to finally make that decision. Thanks for including us on your journey of discovery. But, so sorry that it’s your daughter’s condition that is the catalyst! ~ Laurie
Sometimes it takes life kicking you in the pants to help you sort out your priorities and steer you in the right direction.
Thanks for the good vibes! I hope to know more later today.
Hey Tiff,
I’m really sorry to hear about your daughter’s health…Having 4 children myself, I know the anguish that you can go through.
I pray that the doctors can find the root of the problem quickly and that the road to health is a speedy one.
I’ll be following your progress here with the affiliate stuff as this is exactly what I’m starting myself.
All the very best
Regards
Greg
South Africa
Thanks Greg! I forgot to even mention, topping it all off is the fact that my husband was in Florida when all this happened – picking up my 84 year old dad who has dementia, so I’m double timing the care worker title right now. It’s only for two weeks but Lord help me!

Hi Tiffany,
I just got your mail and had to respond. First to wish you and your daughter well. Nothing can relate to the utter helplessness a parent feels when a son or daughter is unwell.
Both my sons suffer from Asthma and my ex-wife from ME. My eldest son (now 20) has grown out of it but my youngest (10) recently had a bad attack that kept him off school for 3 months. Right after I returned North and I’m 300 miles away. Happily he is now on the mend and back at school.
The pain is unbearable but as parents we just need to be there… to trust in others and to believe that the power that small children have will pull them through.
They will find an answer and things will turn out OK. I wish I could say more but…
And you’re right that IM can be a lonely business. I’m lucky that I do have a business partner and best friend in Thad… makes a huge difference… but it’s rare in our business.
I’m sure there are hundreds out there who would fall over themselves to be your IM buddy… but you would need to find someone with complimentary strenghs… and you’re a pretty tough act to add to!
Mr T is an absolute diamond of course and he WILL fall over himself to help you with this one. MOMU is a great product… provided by a great ‘merchant’… and now to be promoted by a great marketer!
Don’t see how you can fail really.
Rooting for ya!
“Nothing can compare to the utter helplessness a parent feels when a son or daughter is unwell.” Exactly! I was a flurry of tears.
The horrible part was her screaming, “I wanna go HOME” when they were poking and prodding at her with IVs, etc. You just want to protect them but can’t!
Today we go for 2 at home monitors – a constant harness one and an event one, to record when these episodes occur.
I hope I do well with MOMU! I’ve been looking for something positive to promote and I like the product’s message.
Hi Tiffany. There’s nothing worse than your child suffering.I wish both you and especially your daughter a speedy recovery. Rob.
Thanks so much Rob
Tiffany,
My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. It is the worst thing to watch your child go through situations that we cannot control or shelter them from. My daughter was diagnosed with brain cancer and it was the lowest time in my life. I felt so totally helpless and alone.
Passive income is how I spend most of my time building. A lot less headache and more free time. I do have e-commerce sites and they take daily upkeep and are way more stressful with customer service. Time I could be using building passive income. But it is hard to close a business you have worked to build and are making money with. If I had to do it over again it would strictly be passive income.
Stay strong and keep us updated.
Denise
Thanks Denise! I am so sorry about your daughter’s diagnosis. I know there are always worse cases than my own, so I should e grateful of that (and I am).
I agree re: hard to abandon your business you’ve built. I will probably slow down with that and promote more as an affiliate but I won’t leave it completely.
Oh my God Tiff,I am so sorry to hear. I will surely pray for your daughter.I sincerely hope she gets better soon.
God Bless and be strong,
Kind regards,
Aritra
Thanks Aritra and Dawn! I hope so too. She was up at 2:45 this morning scared again for about an hour, so we just got up. She can’t sleep through the flutters.
So sorry to hear your daughter is having heart problems. My thoughts are with you all.
Tiffany, I am so sorry to hear that your daughter is having heart problems. Our 4 year old spent about a week in the hospital when he was younger and I can relate to having your child in the hospital and getting no answers. He was there almost 6 days before we received a prognosis. You really hate to see a child suffer.
But stay positive and I’m sure everything will work out for the better. I’ll keep her and your family in my prayers.
Hi Anthony! Thanks for your warm thoughts. Yes, they wanted to keep her until Tuesday but I said no – because it was ONLY because they didn’t have staff there. I can monitor her the same at home. So here we are…
Hello Tiffany,
I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s problems. I’m sending you Reiki positive energy.
I look forward to hearing positive results on your daughter’s health front as well as your new business tactics.
Angel cuddles,
Sarah
I can use all the energy I can get! I feel wiped out
Thanks, Sarah!
Good morning to you and your family Tiffany. God has mysterious ways of challenging us. Our children are given to us to challenge and help us on life’s journey. Have faith and keep up your great value system and all people around you will help in sharing your journey. Our best wishes go out to all of you and our vibes will constantly be with you. Pierre & Pierrette
I agree Pierre and Pierrette! I felt a renewed sense of prioritization while I was holding her in my arms. Suddenly, I didn’t give a damn about reality TV, work, or other things that weren’t my family.
Dear Tiffany,
We are wrapping you in love and support through your crisis. I’m sure there is a specialist in your area with a solution to end your suffering. I’m alive today because of such a miracle. Let us know how you’re doing.
All the best,
Mary
Thanks Mary! You know that reminded me – they promised to send a life change specialist to our room but never did. She was supposed to help her with the “being in the hospital” transition for 4 days and make her less scared. Holidays are NO time to go into a hospital!
I have got into Internet marketing through MLM of 4life Research products. The sites they provide you either need a major overhaul, or someone like you could set up a totally new site wherein people would go to one product at a time. The people would be directed to one of their products and a checkout rather than to a site with lots of products thus making the visitor lose interest. But one product that is targeted to your daughter’s problem is “Cardio”.I know that spending more is not on your agenda at the moment,
but also for dementia, they have “Recall”.
You helped me market some of their products through a Hubpage promotion. In any case, they have a different theory of Cardiac health than is usually out there.Their products are good, but they are trying to leave promotion up to the distributors mainly.
I hope all our good wishes is helpful also.
I think there is something in that.
Tiff:
All good thoughts to you and your daughter. May the groundswell of support you are getting from this thread help return your daughter quickly to good health. I have a strong feeling that it will.
Love!
Dave
Wish your sweetie is all right now.
Case study? The words tell me that this is going to be in depth! Great Tiff!
Thanks.
Waken
Just wanted to add another voice to the chorus of well-wishers.
I can only imagine what a nightmare this must be for you. I hope it all ends quickly and happily.
There are a lot of folks pulling for you and your daughter… We’re all looking forward to the email that reads “Good News!”
Sorry to hear about your daughter Tiffany! That is always a scary situation.
You have a valid point that I am working on myself- trying to spend more time setting up income steams that do not require you to be in front of the computer 10 hours a day.
Hi Tiff,
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. You are both in my thoughts and prayers – I am sending lots of loving energy.
Looking forward to the affiliate marketing ‘course’ – I can then use it to market YOUR products as an affiliate!
with all good wishes
Robert
Tiffany,
Prayers for you and your daughter, and all the people providing medical care.
Looking forward to seeing the new business approaches you are developing.
Kaye Swafford
Thanks Robert and Kaye! That’s sweet of you. And of course, I’m already documenting it. LOL I document everything I do.
HI Tiffany,I don’t know where you live or if there is a teaching medical school nearby. I just live north of NYC and have choices. You need to get a second opinion now early in the case. And doctors don’t mind this. But your daughters condition has them stumped. Thats a bad position to be in. Little treament can be done and it is more serious than you think. Find the best specialist you can find even if he/she is at another hospital. You should be putting all your energy into a second opinion. Its just a matter of getting on the phone and calling the hospital to get the top person and say you need a second opinion. briefly thats it. Your business can wait a few days. Your daughter is seriously ill. She may even be having seizures. Get on the phone and be on your doctors case to bring in specialist. I’ll tell it to you straight. Your business can wait. Your daughters’ condition can’t. I don’t want to hear another parent say I should have…..Do it now!!!! Sincerely,Gail Goodman
I agree Gail! We go in at 9:30 AM this morning – and then get to meet with a cardiologist. She wasn’t even seen by a cardiologist IN the cardio pediatric wing this weekend! Can you believe that? They just sent a GP. So I’m hoping the cardiologist will have a clearer picture.
Tiffany,
I think it’s remarkable how many people who are essentially strangers to you are offering their support.
But more importantly is the comment by Gail Goodman.
Your business and customers can and will wait.
Your daughters health will not.
Find someone who can properly diagnose her issue and offer a positive solution.
Bob Cotto
I hear ya Bob! I want to see what her pediatrician and cardiologist have to say and take it from there. She’s always #1 in my life.
Tiffany – I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter’s problems! I’ll be keeping her and your whole family in my thoughts and prayers!
I’ve been wanting to really get a passive income plan going for me, too! It will be interesting to watch your case study – and the product itself seems really interesting, too!
Tiffany, Having a sick child is never easy, been there done that, I will pray for a good outcome for her and to help you and your family.
chuck
I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter. Children shouldn’t have to go through these things. My prayers and best wishes to you and your family. I’ll keep sending you healing energy.
Don’t forget to take care of yourself right now, and the same applies to your husband. It might be helpful for both of you to take anti-stress supplements like extra vitamin B complex, etc. It’s not only for your sake, it’s in your familys best interest that your ability to function effectively isn’t diminished by the effects of stress.
Please keep us updated. I’ll be waiting to hear.
(((((((HUGS))))))) and Prayers sent for you and your entire family. Keep us informed.
Hey, Tiffany!
Your whole family are in my prayers. God’s will is that your daughter and father be healed.
I understand your need for passive income. There are so many other things I would like to be doing besides running a hands-on business, but it takes time to set it up. I will be following your thread because I admire and respect what you do.
Stay strong and live long!
Tiffany,
I’m really sorry to hear about your young daughter’s sickness. Stay positive and strong.
Tiffany, I am very sorry to hear about your daughter. I wish her a speedy recovery, and will keep her in my prayers. You are one of the few Internet Marketers that I can honestly say I WILL NEVER unsubscribe from your mailings. You are a true asset to the Internet Entrepreneur community.
There’s nothing worse than not having an answer, especially when it’s a medical condition that effects your child! I hope that you get some answers immediately so that you can at least know the next steps to take.
Tiffany,
I’m so sorry to hear your little girl is having health issues. I hope the doctors get everything figured out for you and your family really soon and that she gets better. I’ll keep your family in my thoughts.
All my family’s prayers and good thoughts are with you. I have a ten year old and know the stress you must be going through.
As for Magic of Making Up, I registered a domain to promote it and have most of the content Travis sends us affiliates but have still not started with it.
I don’t know if you put any stock in CB Analytics, but I just read the stats last night and its gravity is very high, over 300.
Do you think it’s been on the market too long, it’s too saturated or are we in a good position to make some profit?
Travis is excellent with affiliate tools and support.
I like this product. Unfortunately have some experience with its topic. Right now I’m concentrating on another niche but I am eager to work with MOM because it is a passionate topic for me as well as the support of Travis, Bum mktg and the potential of the niche.
It will be interesting to see how you work it. I am rooting for you and will pay very close attention.
All the best,
Robert
Hi Tiffany, I just got your email and wanted to let you know that we care and we trust that your daughter makes a full recovery.
Bless you Tiffany, and your daughter. You’re amazing; caring for so many people in your life, plus responding to many posts right here, at the same time, plus letting us watch over your shoulder as you enter a new niche.
You are one beautiful person and I invite each person who reads this to take a moment and visualize you and your daughter enveloped in a healing sphere of pink light.
From near Canada’s capital city where there is a large childrens’ hospital, our prayers certainly are there for you and your little girl. Adults often would like to take on the pain and problem for them, but unfortunately, we cannot. You can and we expect are there for her 100% of the time.
The business side of life will always be there. Having nine grandchildren and five godchildren, we have been in your shoes, but our faith in God has always been rewarded. We trust it will be for you too.
My daughter is quite ill at the moment so I can totally sympathise with you Tiff,
Regards,
Andrew.
Fellow Warrior Member
Andrew I’m so sorry to hear this. Prayers for you as well!
To everyone – thanks for the outpouring of support, prayers, and well wishes.
Tiffany
I am so sorry to hear about whats happening to your daughter. I can’t imagine what its like since I don’t have children on my own, but I know the concern I get when a family member is ill.
Thank you for your post. Its interesting to see how a successful marketer like yourself is more interested in a passive income stream. Its encouraging too since I know I am on the right road now doing affiliate marketing. I will be sticking my head in here from time to time to see how you are doing.
Take care then
Regards
Kirsten

You’re one of the few people on the internet that I feel like I ‘know’ a bit. Thanks for sharing – not only because of your business, but also so we can pray. Count on prayers from me.
Prayers and blessings to your daughter, you and your family~
You’re a smart woman, Tiff…focusing on a passive income project is a great way to channel your stress into positive results that will help you and your family now and long into the future!
And thanks for being willing to share your findings with us. Your generosity at a time like this is an inspiration. Stay strong, and remember to b r e a t h e
Prayers will be said for you, your husband, daughter and father. Unexplained illness in your child is so terrifying. I pray every day for my unknown online buddies.
Hi Tiff,
Barb and I have lifted our prayers up for your daughter, you and everyone in your family. Although our children are grown and have wonderful children of their own when they are sick we still feel their suffering.
Knowing your capability for marketing, I have no doubt your journey towards passive income with MOMU will be a success. My guess is you will give all his affiliates a run for their money.
Our prayers and positive thoughts are with you.
Best regards,
Ken and Barb
Tiffany:
Thanks for being there and at a time when you are having a crisis with a child – I can think of nothing that is more painful.
You are the example of what network marketing is about – great and trustworthy content.
I’ve bought some great stuff from you – never disappointed.
Therefore, I look forward to following you on this affiliate program. It’s comforting to have an expert to “follow.”
Looking forward to your “words of wisdom.”
Jan
Thanks Jan! Very sweet of you
HI Tiffany,
Will keep you and your daughter in our prayers.
Hi, Tiff Best wishes for you and your little girl – I just read about this today. Blessings
Françoise
Tiff,
Just read about your daughter. I will pray for her and the rest of your family. If there is anything I can do for you, just ask.
Be Blessed,
Bj
Thanks BJ and everyone else who has left recent comments! I have really been helped by the outpouring of support. Scarlett is doing SO much better now that he fever is gone – just as her pediatrician said. It seems the heart was trying to “deal with” the infection/fever by increasing her heartbeat, as if she had exercised or something. I just pray it never returns.
Hey Tiff,
That’s good to hear. Hopefully she goes on to a full recovery without any form of relapse. From what I’ve read, you should ensure that she gets lots of rest, these fevers can potentially damage the heart muscle.
How are you doing?
Regards
Greg
South Africa
Thanks Greg! Yes we’re meeting with a pediatric cardiologist June 19th so we’ll discuss that with him. I had no idea the fever could damage her heart – thanks!
Aloha Tiffany:
It’s not great news when our health goes south, especially for a child. It’s almost unfair but know that kids are better than adults when it comes to recovering and adjusting to health issues. My cousin’s child had heart problems he was BORN and eventually had open heart surgery. This child rebounded and adjusted better and faster than I could and other than the scar, you would never know he had that surgery.
With medical attention and your family’s love and support, you’d be surprised as to what you and your child can overcome!
If your mood (and/or your child’s mood)is down, I came across an article that has helped me get through some depressing times. I still use this today and it helps me instantly! All you do is think of something that would make you extremely happy and excited, i.e. how to beat the heart problem, and believe that it will happen in 1 month, 2 years, or some time in the future.
The point is NO event has to happen to make your mood change INSTANTLY…just know that it will come someday. If or when it comes, no one knows but remember, NO event has to happen…
But when your mind is in this positive state, it will definitely make the road to recovery faster!
To get a more detailed explanation, this is that article that has helped me:

Take Care and many Prayers,
Charles
Thanks Charles! I’ll check it out. She’s doing great right now.
That’s GREAT news Tiffany!
One does feel and act differently when in that state. It’s hard to believe that those beliefs eventually manifest.
But, according to this video http://www.mindmoviedownload.com/FreeMovies/(around the 7 minute mark), this practice is used extensively in non-Western societies and has cured such things as cancerous tumors, with documentation for proof!! [can you sense my affinity to these type of subjects?:)]
After hearing this, I REALLY need to start practicing this more often.
Wishing you many fond family memories!
Charles
Hi Tiffany,
I feel as if I know you also….I was besides myself when I started out in social marketing and you were the only person that emailed me back and understood what I was going through.
I am happy that your daughter is doing better. How stressful this must be for you. Being a Mom with a sick child is really difficult. It sounds like you should be getting some rest yourself. I know that is easier said than done!
Thanks Carolyn! We’re enjoying ourselves this weekend. So far we swam, rented movies and bought candy, had taco dinner movie night, painted a toy jewelry box, painted t-shirts for our girls’ weekend 2009 night, and did mani pedis. Next up? Create dough for a cobbler but instead of cooking it, we’re gonna play with it! Sounds like messy fun. I highly suggest all parents become kids again with their little ones. My fingers look like a bloody mess from her giving me a manicure with red polish, but I wouldn’t take it off for the world
