Blogging With John Chow Review Part 14: Days 6, 7 and 8

Hi everyone! The last task on Blogging With John Chow was grueling but WOW I am loving what it did for me. Truly. I am actually saving time now that I have this all mapped out – and there’s no frustration or anything, just look at my plan and go. I think I’ll be doing this every month like clockwork!

Today we move on to days 6, 7 and 8.

Day 6: Choosing a Theme

Hmm – he has a neat way of thinking about why he does this later in the process. I would have thought it was always one of the first tasks, but not according to him.

Now I already have this task completed for both sites. I love my theme – someone created it for me – and people always ask me (weekly) if they can buy it because they love it. Can’t beat that. It’s not for everyone, though!

He includes 5 more tasks for today and it will be time consuming. I already have this going well, so I don’t need to do the first one. I’m on a daily schedule.  He talks about researching themes, installing them, and a few other tasks. He can’t get into complete detail on some things (like settings) because everyone’s themes will be different. But he does share some to dos with you on a variety of theme issues.

Day 7: Claim Your Territory!

Alrighty I like this – promotion of your blog! Whew! Read the “Why it’s important” section. Calm down John, my ass hurts from that kicking! Love it. Blunt, honey badger no excuses stuff.

Okay task #1 – did it. Neat resource. I did not take the advice of #2 – too much. But I did what I wanted. For #3, I recommend a different tool – ask me what it is when you get to this. I’ve already done #4 – but I’m not doing it for my Toy site, I’m just using my regular Tiffany Dow stuff for that, too.  I like the last one and I already do.

Since I had planned to do day 6 on day 5′s day, but couldn’t, and today I was supposed to do 7 and 8, I’m going to go ahead and do one more day today…

Day 8: Content Calendar Creation

Okay I like the goals and why it’s important, but I’m having flashbacks to day 5. Isn’t this day 5 deja vu? Well part of it is. The first to do is already what we did on day 5.

Only this is more detailed instructions on that. So it should probably have been combined onto one day. He offers tips to help you achieve the day 5 to do task, so that’s helpful. He mentions a resource he uses. I use pen and paper but you can use this free resource he mentions if you prefer.

The 4th task is something I had not done yet.  So what I did here was out of this entire month’s content calendar, I mixed in two formats I have not been using – podcast and infographic. We’ll see how that goes.

The 5th one is a really good lesson for me because just now as I was working on the 4th task, I looked at my calendar and ran into this problem.

End of Today’s Review

Today I am really low on sleep, so I’m glad it wasn’t a heavy load of tasks. I picked up a few tips and felt a little was repetitive. I’m too tired to have a reaction one way or the other. I’m just here, working on stuff. But I am enjoying Blogging With John Chow because it’s helping me be productive – even on these kinds of days.

Tiff ;)

    Hey Tiffany

I am glad I got this class – I stopped my other site and I got a new site started. I rather do it right from the start – long term payoff ….

I e-mailed John a couple times with questions since in the class he says it is ok…and he got back right away. So I have been very happy with the class so far.

FYI…I can finally see Day 8 content. Support said my account had a glitch that needed fixing. Go figure. It took 6 email exchanges for them to finally believe me and research the problem.

I can’t wait to get through all the info …… :)

Tiff have you ever done a review on Market Samurai? I’m thinking about purchasing this tool. Is their anything you can share about this product? It’s an expensive tool and was hoping you might be able to shed some light on it before I purchased it. I trust your opinions over all other people’s comments. I just wondered if you had reviewed this product if you could direct me to the review that may have done on this product in an earlier blog post of yours.

    Any information would be appreciated.

Hope that you’re having a GREAT Day!

I probably did a long time ago. I own it but I never use it anymore out of sheer laziness. It’s a good keyword research tool though. Gives you more specifics. Ah yeah I had reviewed it – with a YouTube video! LOL D’oh! Oh well. Here’s my link to it: http://www.marketsamurai.com/c/TiffanyDow-info

The keyword tool lets you dig down deeper and look at competition much better than Google’s free keyword tool. I liked the monetization analysis of it. I think that’s the tool I used to get my sushi supplies site idea – which was very profitable. I used it during my Bring the Fresh review.

GRR, these reviews are making me want to skip ahead and I keep getting the message that I can’t skip forward (and I need to do it as he listed it). Hehe… I got my patties slapped!

Hope there isn’t a way for him to view how many times a person tries to SCOOT to the front of the line. :)
