The Broke Affiliate’s Story Is All Too Common
I got this email today and it’s so common I thought I’d share his email and my reply. If you’re a broke affiliate who has put in the effort and seen slim to no results, read this:
He wrote:
Hi,
I have a question about a product that you are recommending. I would have contacted the author except for the fact that there are no contact details available. This might be a lengthy email so bear with me, please. The product that I am referring to is “Info Product Killer.” The reason that I am writing is that for some time now I have been trying to make a go of it by way of affiliate marketing. I have only had very limited success and am growing very weary of the whole process.
I have had the idea of physical products in my head for some now, but since I am having such a hard time of it promoting affiliate products, how can I expect to make a go of it with physical products.
Now with all of the hype out there it is really hard to believe most of what is on any given sales page. Wouldn’t you agree? So, what I would like to know is can an unsuccessful affiliate promoter like myself, buy this program, implement it and expect immediate results? I am really tired of putting all this effort
and expense into my internet biz and not seeing any substantial results. Can you honestly recommend this program to me and tell me that if I follow it to a “T”, I will see results?
Any help that you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
p.s. I have purchased your products and find them very helpful. Thank you.”
My Reply to him:
Hi (name removed)!
Did you know I wrote articles for 30 days straight as an affiliate for 3 different info products and made ZERO sales? ZERO. And I’m a prolific writer!
I also promoted CJ.com and Shareasale – zilch!
I made ONE lens on Squidoo last October and made $500 right away promoting toys on Amazon.
YEAR round I make no less than $165 a month from that lens.
So when I saw IPK, I paid full price JUST because I wanted in on it right away because I already knew the Amazon converted well. If you think about it, as a consumer, when are you more skeptical – when you’re paying $97 for a digital eBook any Tom Dick or Harry could have written that could be of ANY quality – or when you go Christmas shopping and buy a Fisher Price or Samsung product from a retailer?
Online shoppers are not skeptical of tangible buys.
I bought over $2,000 last quarter from Amazon. I buy books, toys, tech gadgets. Amazon is a household name. And the cool thing is, the way he teaches it, you’re showing them how shopping from Amazon saves them money – AND Amazon offers free shipping over $25 on most items. THAT’S why I as a consumer buy there and always add to my cart to get over $25.
Please read this page in full – I created it for skeptics because I’ve been there, done that: Info Product Killer Review
The page ALSO answers questions from others on my list AND gives you THEIR reviews.
I hope this helps and please know you’re not alone in your frustration.

Make Redirects from Your Domain to Amazon
Man I am SUCH a tech dummy, it’s unreal. I hate it because whenever I have a simple task, I have to run and bug a friend who knows what they’re doing. This week, I was doing something that seemed SO simple but wasn’t working.
I had bought a domain for an Amazon product I wanted to promote because the niche had a great search and it was a high price point product. So I went into cpanel and did a redirect using my Amazon Associates ID that I had created to the results page for that product.
But because the link was so long, I kept getting an error page. I asked everyone – Warrior Forum members, Amazon Associates, etc. No one could figure it out. When I cloaked my link using Go Try This, it worked, but I lost credit because it stripped out my associate ID – not to mention other associates bit my head off because it had used a frame, which is against TOS.
I was lost. I did NOT want to have to build content on this domain – I’m just article marketing with it. And I hoped to duplicate my results with many niche products. So I went crawling to my business partner at http://www.BuildMyLens.com – Lewis Smile – a genius of all things technical. He said, “Oh I can show you how in 30 seconds.”
And he did! And it works! And all is right in the world. So I want to show YOU how to do this in case you want to buy a domain and use article marketing (or lenses on Squidoo like I teach in my report about the 10 Hot Amazon Squidoo Lens Ideas) to drive traffic to Amazon items – because Christmas is a great time to do this!
Open a .txt file and paste this code in there, saving it as index.txt
<html>
<script>
location = “URL”;
</script>
</html>
Go to the page you want to link to on Amazon and at the top click “Link to this page.” Once you have the code, only grab the first URL in that code they give you. Then paste that into your .txt file where it says URL in quotes. Save and upload to your hosting server.
Once it’s uploaded, rename it index.html or in my case index.php since mine was originally a php file. Voila! It now redirects to Amazon with your ID in it. If you have doubts, under the Links & Banners section on Amazon Associates, they have a link checker.
You just put in your domain name and it’ll show you what page comes up. Then you click the Check Link button and it’ll tell you if your associates tag was safely included so you don’t lose commissions!
It can be frustrating when you don’t know how to do something and we all have stuff we don’t know. If I can help you learn something confusing, I’m glad to help – just ask! If I don’t know, I may know someone who does – like Lewis of http://www.SquidooCool.com who was so kind to take a few minutes out of his day to walk me through this!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. I did.
