How to Create a Clickable Table of Contents
I have to give a BIG shout out to my friend Craig Desorcy at We Help Newbies for guiding this NON-newbie on something she’s struggled with for almost NINE years – making a hyperlinked Table of Contents in an eBook.
Did you know that when I got started on Elance almost a decade ago (8 years), I actually turned down projects that asked for a formatted Table of Contents? I had tried to do the chapter …..page 4 thing and it always looked like a hot mess, so I gave up and when I saw projects with a TOC, I didn’t … even … bid.
Do you know how much money I missed out on because of that?
So Craig one day pipes up and says, “Hey Tiff – here’s a neat thing to know…” and he shows me by video how to make a hyperlinked Table of Contents. We laughed because I told him how I’d lost money not knowing that and it bugged him, too and one day he sat down and spent a little while figuring it all out.
Here’s a step-by-step of how to do it:
1.) Type Table of Contents on the top of the page.
2.) Insert a page break and put your Chapter 1: How to Blah Blah Blah…
3.) Highlight that and go to the top where is says “Normal” on your formatting toolbar and change it to a Heading 1 Size.
4.) Then keep going. You know how in my eBooks and reports, I have chapter titles (which would be heading 1 size) and subheadings? Type your text for the subheadings and highlight it and then make it a heading 2 size. You can do as many levels as you want, but I’d only recommend going 2 deep for a Table of Contents.
5.) After you’re finished with your eBook or report, go to the top and click Insert –>References –>Table of Contents.
Now mine automatically hyperlinks it, but on Craig’s video, he had to make sure the hyperlink option was checked. So if it requires that of you, just make sure it’s checked.
Every time you alter the Table of Contents, you can click the Update TOC button and it’ll update for you.
Hope this helps!

Taking Action as a Niche Marketer
Do you sit by on the sidelines watching other marketers cash in with their eBooks while your ideas ebb and flow, but never materialize? Maybe you feel like you don’t have the expertise in any profitable area.
Or perhaps you don’t even know what is profitable when it comes to information products. Most marketers who haven’t yet tastes success get disgruntled after awhile. They start believing that the only way to make money with an eBook is to sell a “How to Make Money Online” product – and since they haven’t done it yet, they can’t tap that niche, either!
The truth is, the top names in this industry have developed side empires within niches that aren’t related to Internet marketing. They never talk about it because they protect their most valuable information.
The Colonel would never give out his secret recipe for “finger-lickin’ good” chicken, just as top gurus aren’t going to blab about their money-making consumer niches. What they do instead is use certain tactics to spy on profit-pulling competitors and then in a stealth-like manner, they swoop in and tap into the niche themselves. Read the rest of this entry »
Reconstruct Your Market Boundaries
I was flipping through a business success book while I was in Barnes and Noble this week and this sentence popped out at me: Reconstruct Your Market Boundaries.
It makes perfect sense – with many niches, nut just Internet marketing. With the IM niche, I have to broaden my scope. This problem happened recenty when I had the focus for my sales copy on Building an eBook Empire too narrow and limited. I was targeting members of the Warrior Forum, only.
The eBook is great and the site itself has so much potential, so I had to go back to the drawing board and apply this reconstructing concept to my copywriting efforts. Instead of living in the “sea filled with blood,” where competition is ripe for info product creation topics, I had to swim out into the blue ocean – beyond my market boundaries – to see who else was out there to serve as buyers for my eBook.
What I discovered is that I may have to write multiple sales letters – geared to each individual market, but there are plenty. I can target Baby Boomers, which an alarmingly number of my buyers already are (and I didn’t know this!), or college students, stay at home moms, and professionals.
I’m going to conduct a lot of preparation to expose this eBook to the world. I’m stalking offline opportunities as well as online options, because I really think the majority of my customers will be offline, unaware of what an eBook is – or the power it holds to help them make a living online.

Building an eBook Empire
It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got busy and finished up my next project, Building an eBook Empire. At the end of 2006, I got feedback on what type of bonus marketers wanted and needed.
So it’s being released today! It’s 93 pages of step-by-step information on how to lay out an entire eBook Empire based on
secrets and tips I’ve accumulated from being the top “ghostwriter to the gurus” over the last 6 years.
Oh, and the guinea pig that I used when I wrote the eBook? She just celebrated her first $1,000+ day yesterday! Last October, Sandra was whining in a forum of writers because her royalties were SO low on her print book. I PM’d her and said, “Let me teach you the eBook route.” Instead of making $1,600 a year, she’s hitting almost $1,000 in a 24 hour time span? She’s shocked, but I’m not. I told her this is what my “guru” clients bring in consistently.
Your bonus is called How to Write a Great Product When You’re Not a Professional Writer. I poured my heart and soul out into this product, and I’m not one of those marketers who hides the detail from you.
If you have a second, click on over to http://www.guide2ebooks.com and see if it may suit your needs. Make sure you read the
testimonials on this page, too – they’re not your usual hyped up reviews. Each one serves a specific purpose in helping you decide if this is right for you.
Have a great week!
