Work at Home Versus the Day Job
Working at home sounds so luxurious, but it can bum you out. It’s the best of times – and sometimes the worst of times. When you run your own business from home as we do, self-doubt may enter your thoughts.
Sleeping late if you want to, then shuffling down the stairs to your home office in your pajamas and slippers is definitely a plus to working at home online. You work when you want to and take breaks as much as you want – okay, sometimes TOO much.
Remember that you don’t have those perks at a typical day job. Office workers are expected to be in their cubicles at a certain time, take scheduled coffee and lunch breaks and then fight the traffic to get home. And don’t forget those boring, dreadful meetings that you’d be required to attend.
What Do You Look for in a Job?
I started thinking: what do you look for in a job in today’s market? I haven’t been on the job scene since 1999 – that’s a long time! Ever since I became a work-at-home mom, I’ve employed myself through my corporate entity, Write Consultants, Inc.
I think the Internet marketing world offers exactly what I would want if I was job-hunting today, which is:
1.) Flexible work hours. How often do you see a job that offers THIS perk? I remember being in the corporate world and I was pregnant with my son. I thought it was a great job (looking back, it wasn’t). But when it came time for my baby to be born, they couldn’t work out a flexible schedule for me at all – even though what I was doing would have had no impact regardless of what hours I worked. I was pissed!
As an Internet marketer, I work when I want. I take whole days off WITHOUT NOTICE. I take my daughter to the zoo during the day and log on to work for a few hours at night. I take vacation WHEN I want. I don’t have to worry if someone else in the office has scheduled vacation around Christmas – it’s mine if I want it.
2.) The salary I want. This is a toughie. Was it just me or do others feel equally intimidated asking for salary from a prospective boss? Ask for too little and you’ll get it. Ask for too much and you may price yourself right out of a job. I hated it and forget ever asking for a raise. I didn’t bother. I took what I was given. Worst raise ever? A 5 cents per hour raise at Tandy Corporation. Might as well have slapped me in my face. Everyone got 5 cent raises that year – except the executives.
As an Internet marketer, I earn what I EARN. My work reflects how much my salary is. And each year since I started, I’ve given myself a hefty raise and a pat on the back. You know what sucks about corporate work? There’s a salary cap. They may not SAY there’s one, but it’s in place, trust me. I have no cap. I can work more to make more. And the cool thing about this is, just the branding itself helps to increase my earnings over time.
3.) A good work environment. I’m a picky worker. I hate (H-A-T-E) working with annoying people. And in an office, there are some annoying people – always. Whether they’re rude or they talk too much or they steal your lunch out of the office fridge – something won’t be right.
I work at home as an Internet marketer. I work with me, myself, and I. And darn it, I LIKE myself
(that’s from a movie in case you think I’m just being dorky). My only other workmates are my kids and my husband – and I love them so that’s different. I get to take breaks when I want and fix lunch. I can have my TV or radio on. I can have the A/C set how I want it.
I could go on with my list. The point is, there isn’t much a corporate paycheck could give me that my own Internet income couldn’t. Job security? Not in this economy! Camaraderie? I have met some wonderful people online that I get to be friends with. The Warrior Forum is all I need for support and friendships – it’s introduced me to some great people!
What do you look for in a job?
Maybe YOU ought to give Internet marketing a try.

The Freedom to Be Your Own Boss
There’s a common theme among those who begin searching for a way to launch their own work at home business – financial freedom. You might be in dire need of a way to earn more money than your current job provides.
Or, it could be that you have a job that pays an amazing salary, but just doesn’t fulfill you as much as being your own boss would. There’s something missing from life when you’re forced to report to a job at a specific time, told what tasks need to be done, and obligated to steer a company the way other people say it should be directed.
Satisfaction Guaranteed
Being your own boss doesn’t just entail sleeping late and working in your pajamas, as many hyped up products like to lure you with. In fact, you may even find there’s more work involved – depending on what path you choose to acquire your wealth.
But either way, the satisfaction level you achieve by pursuing your own goals will outweigh any job performance review you’ve ever gotten in the 9-5 grind of the corporate world.
There’s a solution available to everyone on the spectrum – from those desperate to pay the rent to people looking for a way to supplement their retirement, and it’s called Internet Marketing.
It allows you to work the hours you want to work, whether that’s 11 P.M. to 3 o-clock in the morning or keeping in line with a traditional 8-5 approach. You make the decision.
Your Internet marketing career can involve as much or as little work as you want it to. You can choose something that requires 30 minutes a day and has slower growth or an option allowing you to bang out a month’s worth of 12 hour days to achieve an unbelievable return on your investment of time in just 30 days.
You’ll be able to choose where you work. Very few Internet marketers actually rent office space out of their home. Because overhead costs are kept low anyway, there’s no reason to add to it when all you need is a computer and an Internet connection, which fits nicely in a spare bedroom or right in the corner of an existing room, like the den!
Running your own business means being in touch with it on a regular basis, so it might be hard to leave for a 2-week vacation without checking in once (although it is possible, depending on which avenue of Internet marketing you choose).
But the good news is – laptops are portable, and you could spend 365 days a year lounging on the beach since you can run an Internet marketing business from anywhere in the world, provided you have access to the World Wide Web.
You won’t have to submit an approval form to leave work. You won’t have to alert your clients that you’re going to the Bahamas. You just pack up and go, logging in once a day or so to see how things are progressing.
Let’s talk money now. Financial freedom has a different meaning for everyone. To some, it could be having enough to finally cover all bills. To others, it may mean making plenty to sock away for retirement and live a luxurious lifestyle.
The benefit of running an Internet marketing business is that you have no glass ceiling preventing you from earning as much as you want to. And you won’t have to ask anyone to pay you more, fearing rejection of a raise.
You set your prices on products. You work more when you want to earn more or cut your hours when money isn’t too tight. You decide when and if you want to branch out into another area of Internet marketing to expand your online empire.

Work at Home TRUTHS
Well I’ve gone and done it. I launched my latest eBook – the first in a series of what will unravel every step of Internet Marketing from the very beginning in exact detail.
I get so many great communications via email from people at every skill level, and instead of hopping around from social site to social site and method to method, I wanted to back up, and map it all out from step 1.
That’s what Work at Home Truths is all about.
I know you’re seeing a lot of images of people frolicking at the beach with their laptop, seeing screen shots of (cough, cough – Photoshopped) earnings…and yeah, some of them are 100% true, but many are not!
It’s discouraging a lot of people who want SO badly to get into IM but don’t see that promised overnight success. I even saw one person post this week that they were suicidal over their failures in
the Warrior Forum the other day! (None of us know if it was real, but I always take things seriously just in case).
Well I’m posting the Work at Home Truths eBook in the WSO (Warrior Special Offer) section initially so that you save money and find out what it’s REALLY like to work from home.
I make great money, but it’s not a red carpet life.
I don’t believe you’re sheep in a herd. I believe you want the truth – it’s not like you’re five and need to believe in the money fairy. You’re a grown-up, is it too much to have someone be honest with you
and expose the warts of what this business has to offer?
