Courage Versus Reputation as a Marketer
One of my favorite movie men of all time, Rhett Butler, once said, “With enough courage, you can do without a reputation.”
I really love that statement. It’s very powerful and in the world of Internet marketing, you should refer to that any time you let anyone or any group intimidate you away from doing something that could make you more successful.
We always talk about Internet marketing gurus in our circles, don’t we? We gush if one stops by the Warrior Forum. We get pissed off and point fingers at their cliques. We envy their ability to do six figure launches while they hang out at each others’ beach houses making stupid videos in t-shirts and swimsuits because they’re just taking a break from their surfboards.
They built a reputation, but you don’t have to have one to be successful. That can come later. You just have to have to courage to take action. Just during this affiliate marketing case study, I’ve gotten several emails (you know who you are) from people who said, “well if you’re in that niche I won’t even bother now,” or “I never thought of trying that niche since so many gurus are in, but maybe I will now.”
That kind of mindset is what held me back those 6 years while I was stuck being someone else’s bitch so to speak. (Again, sorry for my language – I grew up around retired military men on the golf course).
You have to step outside of your comfort zone. You don’t need the mastermind groups. You don’t need the JVs to get started. YES, you DO need to work on those later because it’s leaving money on the table if you don’t – but it’s not a prerequisite for your success.
Remember Rhett whenever your backbone feels a little weak.
Tiff

Man, you did it again Tiff. You nailed it! We do have this celebrity attitude toward the gurus – hey, you even qualify
It is hard not to have this sort of awe for those who have “made it”. But your transparency has always given me courage to “do” and not just try.
I know this will date me a bit but I loved Bionic Woman when I was a kid. Well, it turns out Lindsay Wagner lives near us and not long ago my husband got the opportunity to help her load out her shopping cart at a local Walmart. Super person. She is just “plain folks” with a recognizable face. It reminded him that we all put our pants on the same way.
Thanks for the reminder to be inspired by those who are successful and not intimidated.
Well I’m certainly no guru. I may know more than some on some topics but that’s where it ends
I wouldn’t want that status because some people hate you so much. LOL. I love Bionic Woman! I’m 38 FYI and proud of it
Hello Tiff,
this is very true. as per your saying you may not want to call yourself a guru (i wouldn’t too i dont like the word) but yes you know some topics more than others. this is the humanly attitude and this is what differs you from others. I like your determination a lot. you are the only one i follow on twitter ( still thinking to use it as a marketing tool).
you are amonst very few people i like in IM arena. keep on practicing your principles!! Bravo
Zane
