Hi everyone! Time to find out more about how to publish on Amazon Kindle in my 9th consecutive review of Geoff Shaw’s Kindling course. Yesterday was the first day I did not log in (I’ve been addicted) since I bought the membership and I missed it, but it was my birthday and I wanted to get some ghostwriting done in between activities.
Update: I wanted to tell you all that Geoff’s course has been so inspiring to me. My non fiction dip in the Kindle waters is going FANTASTIC! I’m seeing approximately $900-$1,000 a month earning expectations from my one short 37 page Kindle creation.
He’s also gotten rid of my fiction fears to the point that I am meticulously planning a debut of a fiction pen name (two actually) – one in the romance genre in a collaboration effort and one in contemporary fiction, which I’ll be doing solo. I have followed his advice on what social marketing efforts to pursue and read up on what the Kindle Million authors have done – they are all in line w/what Geoff teaches!
Very minimal work to achieve success, compared to the difficult minisite/eBook struggle we face without Amazon’s help. I’ve grabbed the domains, Twitter accounts, FB accounts, YouTube channels and gmail addresses for my pen names. I splurged on a 30 point iStock image today for my debut in the romance arena. I want this done RIGHT from the very beginning.
I’m going to be starting the marketing efforts and brand building before I even finish the first book. I am dead serious.
Oh! Another update – I went to Blogger to set up a blog for my non fiction that’s up there and I was shocked to see I owned about 10 blogs I’d created over the years and done not much with. I deleted most of them. Started my vegetarian blog here: Becoming a Vegetarian Against Your Will. I’m not a big fan of the layout or use (I love me some WordPress) but oh well, I’ll play the game as instructed.
So let’s get started on what today’s log in has to offer!
Okay I have no clue what this section is all about but one thing’s for sure – I get excited about learning anything here now. Aha! He ‘splains this section – a hodge podge of stuff that we need to know but that doesn’t fit in exactly anywhere else.
This is just a video. It’s a little over 5 minutes. Every time I listen to something in the course, my son Shawn starts talking like Geoff. LOL! Ouch, Geoff – you described me sometimes when you talk about busy bees who get nowhere. I do, but sometimes I fit the description. ACK! Wait this is me with many things. LOL!
I’m the orange and green (and orange again). Eek! And green again. Okay okay I’m all orange and green all over the place. Wow the visual of what we tend to do is GREAT – shows us why this is so important.
I want this to print out on a stickynote or something so I can remind myself to STOP delaying.
I’m glad he’s explaining this because people ask me and I’m new too – I have no idea! I didn’t know about the over price. That’s odd. Eew I didn’t know Amazon once did this! Glad they don’t now – how frustrating. I like the target price – I’m using it myself.
One point is an ethical no no for me. Well it’s not that he recommends it – he actually says IF you’re doing this, then… – but this is something I’m telling you don’t do.
I like the info on testing and finding the sweet spot for your specific book’s profit optimization.
People have been asking me this a lot lately. Right off the bat I agree with his advice. I’ve been telling people this is how I do it, too. Really good advice for those of you gearing up to outsource content for publishing on Kindle.
He has an audio message for us at the top, followed by a text lesson and then more audio. I agree with what he says in audio #1. We learn for the first time about an Amazon slap category.
I like the bottom line he gives. On the second audio, he says he gets asked a question that you guys ask me all the time.
Okay before I go on to this section, I just HAVE to do something. I go back to the Time section and play the video and do a Print Screen on my computer of that graphic he has in his video to get my BUTT in gear. Done and printed and cut out and now taped to my freaking monitor!
Alright back to the marketers mindset. Boy he’s nailed the typical marketer’s mindset down. There’s an audio after the introductory text. Love his work ethic and morals here. This is a REALLY good section and important for most of you (and even me) who have been told the wash, rinse repeat story – not that it doesn’t work but that there’s a better way!
I’m taking his advice here – I’m investing up front, doing some GREAT work and planning for my brand and future. He has some warnings about Amazon and our bulk mindset. He has a good footnote at the bottom.
Bet he gets asked this question a lot. I do! LOL. Agree with his advice here! Why don’t people intuitively do this? I don’t know. Love the twist he puts on it! He changes it from an impediment to an advantage.
Well I like titles like this because there’s a lot of just “stuff” out there. This is a compilation of just solid advice Geoff wants to share in his Kindling course that has to do with your success, period. There is some text, then there are 4 audio files and some more text.
Audio #1 – Your Long Term Financial Future – He has you ask yourself a question and I can proudly say yes. Good insight.
Audio #2 – Seeds of Advice – Good advice and really important for marketers to know. Motivational – never too late.
Audio #3 – Is It Legal? – Quells our fears here.
Audio #4 – Roll It Out – This is about a lack of confidence, which you guys KNOW I’m big on teaching. Kindle should not hinder your confidence – it should make it skyrocket. I like the motto.
Very motivating page!
Okay this page is a video almost 7 minutes long. We’re watching something while he talks. Very motivating and inspiring. What he says last is what I do – and you all know why – my kids. Maybe we all ought to bookmark this video and revisit it when we’re being lazy. Or procrastinating.
This is a video that explains what some people may not know. I of course get nosy when I sign up for things, hitting buttons and pulling drop down menus all over the place so I’d figured this out already.
This is a video and small bit of text to put an end to your zany obsession with reviews. The kind of obsession that makes you consider stuff I consider unethical. Don’t do it. Just listen to Geoff’s advice here.
He puts your mind at ease using a top selling Kindle author as an example.
Okay I’m done with this section but the next one is just one section with no subheadings, so I’m moving forward.
We all hear about the slaps – Google slaps, Squidoo slaps, Penguin slaps. It’s a really violent world out there. He goes through the various “you might lose your account” Amazon scenarios.
First green bullet point – I agree with! And I had a book up first that I LATER released PLR to, so I deleted it from my account. And that sucked because I was making over $100 a month just with that one publication. But I don’t want to jeopardize the future of my account. I want to build something BIG!
Second green arrow – I briefly heard about this but never learned about it because it’s not my thing.
Third one – I won’t do this. Good to know.
Fourth arrow – He touched on this before.
Fifth arrow – Advice that’s good for spammy marketers to listen to.
Sixth arrow – Good to know and might make me combine certain series books I had planned out.
Seventh arrow – I wouldn’t have this problem but others might.
He explains what constitutes a high refund rate for this platform and what to do about it if it happens to you.
Alright loved today’s lesson. Since I have the chart from the Kindling course video staring me in the face, I think I’ll let it kick my butt and get me to work now.
