Keep It Simple, Stupid!

I’ve gotten two back to back emails from people who bogged themselves down in the fine details of something so bad that they got stuck!  Sometimes, you can unstick yourself by following the mantra of this blog post – Keep It Simple, Stupid!

In this case, instead of simply using a template and uploading using cpanel, one person has bought various extra tools – professional website builders and specific FTP tools. Now they had dumped a whole bunch of extra work on themselves – to learn how to use two more tools.

In this case, it’s with IPK – Info Product Killer. The whole purpose, if you remember reading the PDFs or watching the videos, is to QUICKLY get your content up and feeding the search engines. He states that we shouldn’t get wrapped up in making everything perfect – content, etc.

When I buy a product like this, it’s a good idea to follow the basic instructions. If you recall, I whizzed through it so fast initially that I bought the wrong kind of domains. That’s a mistake you don’t want to make. But here’s how I’m Keeping It Simple, Stupid:

1.) I outsourced the content. Since this was for my own sites, I didn’t have to worry about quality as I would with a ghostwriting client.

2.) With the content i got back, I had the urge to correct mistakes like putting the period inside the quotation marks, or fixing it’s to its whenever I noticed a mistake. But I had to stop and post it as is. I was taking too much time rewriting it – what a waste!

3.) I use one template and plug in new graphics. I don’t use any website building software. One person said he looked at the HTML code of the IPK template and it blew his mind. Don’t look behind the curtain! You’ll make it harder than it should be. You don’t need to know complicated code. I use a simple FrontPage program and cut and paste my content in there.

These are just a few ways but you get the gist of it, don’t you? Stop trying to overthink things. I have to rein myself in from time to time, too. Just check yourself on occasion and you’ll be fine :)

  • Tiff,

May I call you Tiff? Ah, too late.

Anyone on this blog understands that Ms. Dow is an expert (along w/Bob The Teacher) when it comes to Squidoo. Beyond that realm, be wary.

Here’s what you do unless you want to KISS your $$ goodbye: stop buying the “Simplest”, stop reading and drooling over the the “Quickest”:

Just STOP: and follow EXACTLY … step-by-step… what the last $47 or $97 program you invested in says you should do.

    Do it all.

Whatever it is! It does not matter!

Do everything in that program (don’t stop, don’t dawdle … go all the way: buy a domain name and host it, mess up, try again, and LEARN! … just do it all)

One week from this moment you’ll ask such different questions that ‘keeping it simple” will be at an another level …

And you’ll feel and be less Ignorant.

Great advice – I’m still struggling to make any $$ with IPK – when people come to the site they are clicking on the links but not buying anything. I think I need to concentrate on building traffic and hope conversion increases as Christmas approaches. I think the key is thought o do like you say – keep it simple and follow the apparently tried and tested instructions!
