Kindle Publishing Challenge Day 8 and 9

Pinterest

Hi everyone! Sorry I doubled up again. I’ve been nose to the grindstone on a major PLR pack I’m writing, so I didn’t blog.  Actually I didn’t even write my page yesterday EEK! So right now. Pause hang on…

Alright just did it. Did two pages. Really not excited about this business topic. Ugh.  But I’ll forge through anyway. I need to remember to hire Rich at QuickSiteStudio.com to make my ecover. Okay just ordered it. Told Rich what I wanted for the title and left the creative up to him.

Mom was on the phone with me this morning and she did half her page and then work for someone else. She’s struggling with prioritizing herself but I told her she will ALWAYS struggle if she has no residual income, and you HAVE to make time for your own stuff. The reason it HAS to be before others’ work gets done is because you’ll always feel less guilt putting yours off until tomorrow than you would a client’s work.

My sister Jeni’s doing it as well and I’m not sure how she’s faring, but she was ahead on her creation anyway. She’s pretty good about doing her stuff first because she knows she’s fast on ghostwritten work and meets her deadlines.

Okay it’s 77 degrees in here but at least it’s 6 degrees cooler than yesterday. I thawed out my A/C. Still too hot! I’m ready for Winter!

    Hi Tiffany

It is winter here in little old NZ and my fingers are freezing, lol. I have got my fingerless gloves on as I am working and my hands still feel the cold :)

I have surged ahead with this book and am on the last chapter. You have mentioned a couple of times in your posts about not being overly enthusiastic about your topic – that is honestly why I try and write my books quickly; because otherwise I do get bored with the topic and that seems to influence my writing. Do you find that?

But I will still be following the challenge as I have another book planned on a more obscure niche that isn’t likely to result in a lot of sales, but will be fun to research and write.

Send me some warmth please Tiffany :)

This one was chosen at random based on the video example I showed LOL so there’s no interest in it whatsoever. If I normally choose to write something, I’m already excited about it.

Gosh lady it’s 104 degrees here today. Melting!

        Hey Tiff,

Since we’re doing this to get a real feel for how writing AND promotions will do, why not grab a topic that interests you and start again? As fast as you write (especially when it’s something you like), you could get 9 pages together really fast.

I’m thinking that if you don’t, your lack of enthusiasm is going to show up in your writing, which will in turn show up in your sales data, and may change what the results could be if you had chosen something you have more energy to put into.

Not to mention with your illnesses and stuff, you’re now putting a mental energy drain on yourself every day when you have to write your next pages.

        Just a thought…

I’m looking forward to summer on my side of the pond Tiffany. Or moving further north to get away from the cold.

  • Tiffany,

I am so enjoying writing the morning page(s). I feel like I am working on two projects at once since I’m writing the morning page(s)on Siri’s Summer and working the rest of the day on my thin hair book. Rich is working on the thin hair book cover as I write this. I just printed out the entire book for a final read through, so by the time the cover arrives, I will be ready to publish straight away. I’m so excited. Finishing the thin hair book also took me in another direction – solution-based books. So of course that meant a new domain and a new website where all my solution-based books will live. Wow, when you create a monster with your enthusiasm, knowledge, recommendations and encouragement – you really create a monster!

I was caught up yesterday after doing two plus pages, but had special grandson most of yesterday and today. Shouldn’t be a problem to write two pages tomorrow as I am getting more excited by the minute to see how this all plays out.

I have a growing list of future books to write.

Glad you mentioned the cover as I need to get that ordered. I have an idea of what I want it to look like, so that helps!

Hopefully I’ll get the first draft done within the next week and that will give me time to start going through the proofreading process.

  • I’m debating on whether to embed short video demonstrations in my eBook. Does Kindle let you do this? Is it even worth doing? I don’t intend to do video or screen captures as a substitute for written directions, but as a supplement to help people see exactly what to do on a computer screen.

    • Tiffany says:

      I’m not sure Victoria, sorry.

      • Well, rats. My research seems to be suggesting either “No” or “Yes, but…” the caveat is that if Kindle allows video in the books, it’s only available on certain devices. I’m not even quite sure about that.

But then someone (manoushz.com) suggests uploading the videos to YouTube and linking to them from within the book instead could be a good way to build up subscribers to your channel instead. I’ll have to think on that.

I’ve just created a weekly worksheet to help stay on track. I did that a few years ago when I had a membership site and it worked really well.

I’ve already filled in the daily ‘to do’ for my fiction – write 1 page! (In addition, I’m creating a FB page, doing blog posts and getting Twitter going under my pseudonym. Plus doing my usual non-fiction stuff.)

So right about doing things for yourself first! I have been doing it for a week and feel a lot less guilty! It isn’t easy at first , you need to kick yourself but it’s worth it at the end of the day! And the prospect of getting some residual icome HELPS a lot!

By the way, sent you a friend your way…and turned her into a customer for the Kindling course so you should have had a commission Sunday, and she is delighted with the course although she says it is going to take a while to digest everything! I can understand that, considering the length of the reviews but yes she finds Geoff Shaw’s course great and she was just looking for something like this! ::)

  • Janet says:

Slowing down a bit from previous few days of over production but almost up to 6000 words so really pleased. Been doing a bit of editing as and when I thought of things I needed to add to what had already been done and also, because my book is telling my own story, I need to think how best to present that in the light of the subject of the book.

I am wondering about how long the book should be – I know the answer is probably “how long is a piece of string” but I would be interested in some feedback. Geoff mentions 2,000 to 50,000 – so in some ways anything goes I guess. My book is in the health/self help genre.

I am also interested in the concept of feeder books and wonder if anyone has any experience of how this works?

    • Tiffany says:

As much as it needs to be Janet :) Adopt that mindset and forget word count. That’s the best way to ensure you write something informative without fluff and filler.
