The Importance of Friends in High Places

    By Tiffany | October 16, 2006

As I’m revving up my Internet marketing efforts (and I’ll tell ya - it feels very weird not having any ghostwriting clients right now), I realized just how much I do and don’t know. I’ve been writing about Internet marketing ever since 2001, when Jimmy D Brown hired me at Elance.

The spectrum of topics I’ve researched has been amazing, yet every day I learn something new. Here’s where I think newbies are going to get hurt. I’ve written and read several Blogging eBooks.

They cover things like how to market your business with a blog, how to use AdSense in your blog, affiliate marketing and blogging, etc. What they usually don’t explain clearly are the minor details that make a world of difference.

While it might talk about affiliate marketing in a blog, it doesn’t explain how to cloak your links to prevent hijacked commissions. I just recently learned how to do this using Go Try This. I already knew you were supposed to cloak your links, but didn’t know the right tool for the job - or exactly how to use it once I bought it because some features aren’t needed and some you want to be careful to do just right.

When a fellow ‘net marketer, Craig Desocry of We Help Newbies, rescued me with a video tutorial, I felt very lucky to have someone to turn to to walk me through the little things. He had already gone through the trial and error phase, so he helped me skip that and move quickly toward success.

I do this all the time with writers who want to start making money on Elance. They don’t know how to create a profile, how to bid, or how to invoice someone. I explain it, step-by-step, so that they can easily get started. In fact, one writer sent me a Ghiradelli Tower of Chocolate this week for helping him get started (being a chocolate fiend, I welcomed the unexpected surprise with open arms).

Most newbies won’t have someone helping them for free. They won’t know that the Warrior Forum even exists. They’ll simply struggle, taking twice as long to get through a simple process. My advice if you’re a newbie to ‘net marketing is that you join forums, make friends, and give back as much as you can so others will give to you.

I’ve learned recently from Tiffany how helpful people can be. Tiffany Dow is the real deal both as a marketer and as a person. If Karma plays any role in her life, she’s going to be abundantly wealthy!!

      Thanks for everything Tiff!
