Part 1 of a Two Part Amazon Associates Question
Hi everyone! I’m busy filling LR orders until the weekend’s up, and also working on wrapping up my IM info product in between but I want to ask you a question if you’re an Amazon Associate:
What types of content do you use or would you love to have to help you get traffic and make sales?
And it can be a combination of these items. Please use the name in your rely (don’t say #1 and #3 or I’ll get confused LOL)! Also, if you want to, add some lengths you’d love to see – 250 words, 400 words, 800 words, etc.
- Review Articles (for blogs or directories or wherever)
- Short reports
- Full eBooks
- Email autoresponder series
So remember, this is for tangible Amazon stuff. Which do you use most? Any other information you’d like to include is great, too regarding specifics.
Tiff

I have a couple of different avenues to Amazon, and neither produces a huge amount of income. First, I use Squidoo (based on your Squidoo guide), and I specifically do product comparison reviews (this vs. that). I consistently have sales, and they are high(er) dollar items. It’s enough for a dinner out per month from one lens group.
I also have a general foreign language learning site that has links with an occasional sale – but no specific product review articles, just general info and helpful links which include quite a few books.
I still get commissions from a couple e-how articles I did before the Demand Media buyout. They never removed the links!
So comparison articles and general info articles. Not sure if the eBooks you mention are viral w/links or stuff you buy…?
Yup just comparison review articles and static webpages with general info.
I don’t use eBooks for marketing.
thanks Chris!
Funny enough, I was thinking of requesting some amazon reviews of make up products because they sell well for me.
Have you ever seen Nathan Devlins long PLR review WSOs? They’re stellar at about 800-1000 words and I would love some like that but with make up please. Thanks, Muse.
With make up meaning the make up niche? I haven’t seen his but I have done long reviews for people before.
I like 400 word review articles. I made a 4 figure payout on squidoo this month(dec sales) from sales lenses with about 400-700 words of content and a list of products that fit the needs/benefits..lots of big photos. So those work great for me:)
Awesome! Thanks Heather
p.s. That was through Squidoo. I still await the Amazon payout:)♥
Heather, when you say Squidoo payments, do you mean their Adsense, or their modules? I was just curious, cause it’s always Adsense for me.
Actually all of them! But the ones that are hardest to write (for me) and hardest to find are the autoresponder series. Minimum 250 words that I can link back to a post on the site.
Thanks ma’am
Thanks Isobel!
Reviews of 500+ words for content, then short reports for optins & about 5-7 autoresponders. That would make a sweet package.
Thanks Becki! I’ll be delivering on that
Hi,yes the make up niche and skincare and beauty products. When people buy these items they tend so stock up and they convert really well. He writes them with an introduction, the specifications and then he writes an honest review with the postive and the negatives. I like it because its not really like promoting to my readers, its helping them make a good choice. I dont like those reviews that are always positive and you can tell theyre promoting. Thanks Tiff!
Thanks Deb!
Thanks, Deb!
I concur with the 800-1000 word review articles. Longer is easier to rank in my experience.
Thanks Robcarl!
I love the review articles. I use them on Squidoo. 500 words up is great.
thanks Mack!
Hi Tiffany, first time commenting on your blog. =)
As an Amazon associate myself (not really earning that much myself), I definitely prefer fairly lengthy review articles (800 words+).
Also, in case some aren’t aware, you’re not actually allowed to promote Amazon affiliate links directly via email/PDF reports/ebooks. Only websites are allowed. Some people do it anyway but it’s technically against Amazon’s TOS (https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/help/operating/participation, see section 6). Of course, you can still promote your site which has Amazon links using those methods, so they’re still useful for driving traffic to your site.
Ah thank you!
I didn’t know that… I subscribe to a monthly 50 best Amazon products PLR report that is naturally featuring links to each of the 50 products.
It seems a very strange thing for Amazon to disallow… I have a few general information reports that I have included a couple of links to specific products in the 30+ page documents.
How likely is it that these would cause problems – does anybody know, or have any experience, or stories?
Hey Helene,
I contacted Amazon about this last year and yes, it’s true; they have banned associates accounts because of direct linking from emails and through links not on an actual webpage.
They said that it’s because they have had people “cookie stuffing” and, if affiliates link from emails or PDFs etc, they can’t see where the links are coming from and they can’t tell if you’re a cookie stuffer or not – so they just ban it altogether.
It’s also the same reason why they also don’t like cloaked links.
Tiffany if you get a chance could you make a package like nathans product review membership? He’s made an old chick like me very happy! I love having the full package with reviews and the report and the articles . Im not too good at list building but i will offer the report to build a list when i get around to it. do you think that this would be something that you could do in the plr mini mart? i would almost beg you because i cant get enough!
I don’t know what he has Flo, but look at what I’m proposing here: http://www.tiffanydow.com/blog/amazon-associates-poll-part-2/
Ah i thought you knew Nathans PLR. You can see it here http://homeapplianceplr.com/ I also love your idea though. Will you also offer some graphics because I struggle with that. Thanks Tiff! Should be great!
I’m not doing graphics Flo.
I personally would love to sell full E-books as an affiliate – and I think you write great E-books, Tiffany!!!
In fact I might write a squidoo lens on that – maybe…. will have to do some research and see whats already available on squidoo about e-books.
But eBooks about tangible products on Amazon?
Long Review articles in home related niches.
thanks Jean!
HI Tiff! I still check in every day but don’t respond as much lately…
Longer reviews are the best I think!
Thanks Clefty!
I’d love to see some 800ish word product reviews, maybe some comparison review articles.
Reports are also great. For example, “What to look for in an LCD TV.” I like having reports like that to give out as opt-ins to try and build a list on sites promoting physical products.
350ish word blog posts are also great.
I like those too. Thanks Amanda!
I much prefer the longer (800+ words) reviews. Then if they are too long, or if I need extra content, I can make them a Part 1, Part 2 type post for my blogs.
Thanks Linda!
I use the review articles. 250 to 500 words are best.
Thanks Bob!
Umm, all of the above.
I’m very easily pleased and would make use of all of the different word counts. I do like comparison articles.
thanks Kathy!
Hi Tiff,
I do review articles approx. 600 – 800 words per article.
Thanks Felicia!
Hi Tiffany;
I use 800+ review articles for my Amazon sites. You might like to have a look at a course that Wanda and Paula did in which they talk about how their success really started after they produced these long reviews of products. I am not an affiliate of theirs but I think you can probable find their take on it at affiliateblogonline.com
I am gradually changing all the Amazon products that I promote to this review structure.
Thanks Pat! I have their course
I think short-mid sized reports and/or articles, min 400 words, that pre-sell a prdouct, where possible, and gives them an insight to what the product is, make them think, wow, I got this information free, I can only imagine what I’d get for the paid product. This is more so with info products and books obviously, but it could also be on topics, such as gardening, if your affiliating a lawn mower, etc.
Thanks Stan!
Review Articles 400-800 W and Full eBooks will great!
Thanks Gautam!
I agree with most of the posters here… a Combo pack is ideal, in a perfect world. I would like all three, but these are my order of preference if I could only have one choice:
1) I think that the 800 – 1,000 word review article per product/model/brand with some Specifications and Features/Benefits content is ideal (and I have found those sell best in PLR compared to short review articles)
2) supported with a short Report giveaway about the niche or product is perfect.
It does not need to be about specific products as that can date the report, but about the issue/problem/solution/niche that you just embed your website/squidoo link – and givaway on your info page/site to make it more sticky or use for subscriber/list building if that is your thing.
3) Then if you include say 5 blog posts they can be used as a base for promotional web2 content postings and mailouts.
I will be doing combo packs for sure Helene
Good insight re: #2 especially!
I prefer the longer reviews 500+ and comparison articles. Autoresponders would be helpful as well.
Thanks Edie!
I prefer review articles – 400 to 800 words – and short reports.
Thanks Lewis!
Review articles get my vote.
Thanks Olivia!
