Price Your Product for Your Customer’s Pocketbook

    By Tiffany | November 6, 2006

I’m getting a lot of flack for the price I’m setting my soon-to-be-released eBook at. It’s called A Writer’s Guide to Internet Marketing and it’s for writers who know nothing about selling their own non-fiction products on the ‘net (or how profitable it can be).

Now most marketers who have contacted me have said, “This is business building information - you need to charge $67-97 because most other Internet marketing eBooks are that much.” Well I’m going to turn my back on that tradition. Why?

Because I know my audience. And I know that even $37 is stretching it - many won’t be able to afford it even at that price. These aren’t golfers with an expensive hobby or business owners seeking to take their products online - they’re often struggling to make ends meet.

Many writers can’t splurge on anything to further their craft - and it has nothing to do with their talent. Once a year, back before I was making money as a writer, I’d ask Santa for the new Writer’s Market - what used to be a $39.99 splurge. Normally, I wouldn’t buy any books that cost that much - $20 being my limit.

So I priced A Writer’s Guide to Internet Marketing just under what I used to pay for a Writer’s Market, although now they’re even cheaper! One reason I’m even keeping it this expensive is because I know it’s something they can read, set up, and launch as they go.

With a Writer’s Market, it’s hit or miss - maybe you’ll get accepted, maybe you won’t. My guide doesn’t ask anyone’s permission - you create, you launch, you market and the only thing holding you back is whether your writing is enticing enough to pull in an audience.

Next time I create a product for people with deep pockets, I’ll remember to price it just right, but my mission here is to help people - not to rake them over the coals.

    Till tomorrow…

      Hey Tiff,

It’s nice to know that someone is looking out for there fellow writers. More than that, someone who’s been in the trenches and knows how tough it is. I think I can speak for many of us when I give an emphatical THANK YOU!
