Best Tool I’ve Bought in Two Years!

    By Tiffany | July 26, 2008

    Hi everyone!

I’m actually writing this blog post using a new software that I bought yesterday. It’s called Dragon Naturally Speaking, and I bought the mobile version 9. I could go on all day about how wonderful the software is and it was well worth the $249 I spent on it - and yes, I’m mad that it sells for only $183 on Amazon with free shipping, too.

All I have to do is wear a headset and talk into it and it types exactly what I’m saying. Do you realize how much increased productivity, we can all happen if everyone had the software?

I realize this is on the pricey side for many of us, but I believe it will increase my own content output by at least 400%. The best thing about it is I never have any down time since I bought the mobile version.

While you’re speaking, if you need to quit for a minute you just tell Dragon Naturally Speaking to go to sleep. Then when you’re ready to talk again you tell it to wake up.

I have more training to do, but it seems to work very fast and recognizing even my silly Southern twang.

I am recommending this software to everyone I know, not just because it helps with productivity, but it will also help many of you in being able to write a conversational style. I won’t go into how it will save my wrist, because I type so fast and furious and bang out up to 40 pages a day and content.

Someone asked me about the negative reviews they saw on Amazon for this product.  I’m not sure why people are having a hard time with it but I certainly love it.  I know most of the marketers that I know who use it also love it.

All I can think is that 183 people have purchased this particular version, and only about 10 reviews have come in about half of those negative and one by the same guy who posted twice.  I know I usually don’t leave a review unless it’s negative, because if something works, I usually don’t take the time to log in and sing praises about it.

I think I’ll login at Amazon today and give my own review.

    Tiff :-)

Glad you are enjoying it, Tiffany. Does it still have that feature where you can record things when you’re away from your computer and have it translate it into text when you get home? I tinkered with that a bit in the version I had a couple years ago. Kind of fun to compose blog posts while you’re out for a walk (and with the proliferation of people who talk on wireless headsets these days, you don’t look all that strange talking to yourself in the park…).

Yes it does, Lindsay! Well, if you buy the mobile version, which I did. I haven’t tried that out yet but I plan to when I get a second of down time.

      Hi Tiffany:

I found your site through a Twitter Tweet. If I am not following you, I WILL be!

You know I received Dragon Naturally Speaking years and years ago with a package of WordPerfect. I believe I still have it - never used. (could be outdated at this point with all the new versions of Windows)

A lot of the time, what I write is motivated by emotion. Sometimes when I am feeling that emotion I do not feel like writing or do not run to the computer to do so.

My point… IF I can get Dragon to work, I can talk into it and have it type for me and get lots of good content that I might not be able to write so well on command (in less time than it would take me to write it on command).

Tiffany… Thanks for helping me — at the least — come up with this idea. Now I have to find the copy of Dragon that I had. The headset I have, that I am sure about!

I hope I can find the old copy of Dragon and can at the least give it a try and see if it will work for me.

      Thanks again.

Thanks, Roz! Good luck with your old copy of DNS. I have no idea how accurate it is :) I’m loving mine, though!

I got the $49 version not too long ago (buy.com was running a special), and regrettably, don’t use it.
I got frustrated with all the misspellings, and general slowness of the application.
It never kept up with my voice; perhaps this mobile version of which you speak is better.

I’ve had DNS 9.5 for a while now and was having trouble getting it to work for me until I bought a good microphone and now it works almost perfectly. Now I’m using it more and more often, I’m happy to say.
