Sick of Sales Copy?
By Tiffany | January 23, 2008
So I was procrastinating in the Warrior Forum just now and saw a thread about this website here:
http://www.clickhereyouidiot.com
I had seen some sites like this before, but this was REALLY funny to me and it sealed my recent thoughts about sales copy.
As you may (or may not) know, I align with web 2.0, or peer-to-peer tactics on the ‘net. Then you see me with these same sort of sales letters promoting my Squidoo eBook or other products and it just flies so hard in the face of all I believe in.
I DO believe these letters convert. They do. It’s a fact. But aren’t we moving toward a “kinder, gentler” sales letter where the author doesn’t assume we need a sledgehammer to drill the information into our heads?
I can read without highlights, red bold font, or superlatives.
Just the facts, M’aam!
It’s kind of like how many marketers are gravitating to video-only sales copy now because they feel static words won’t get the job done.
So from now on, in the future, you’re going to see me playing with some off-the-beaten-path formulas for sales copy to see how you really have to approach a visitor to convert them into a buyer.
I think we all can relate to the above site in some degree, even if we sometimes buy from these sites because the person behind it is someone we respect.
What do you think?
Sounds off about sales copy here.
Have a great “rest of the” week!

Yeah, I have a love hate relationship with sales copy. Getting good at it facinates and scares me, cause it seems very hard to get good at it.
As far as me reading sales copy, I haven’t done it for years, cept to swipe…
I only buy products I already know about through my community and I don’t even take 30 seconds to GLANCE at the copy, I just scroll down and buy.
We still use copy cause, well, it works every time! We haven’t tested a video only sales letter, that very well may be in the works soon though, sounds awesome…

When I see a L-O-N-G sales copy with the words guarantee, I move away.
Death and Taxes, not marketing which I feel has become somewhat of a scam, too much info. will burn out your gray matter fast.
I look at the scoll button on the right of every page, the smaller it gets the quicker I move to other endeavors. God Bless, Joe

Hi Tiff,
You’ve definitely got the right idea, wrong application.
Squidoo, turned into the “just right” combo of juicy Top Shelf info and the fact that you’re making a for-pay offer is the place Focus should be.
Web 2.0 (like you, Tiff- Squidlove all the way), yet non-intruding (PDF format only… No need for any TLD, ‘cept to host file- that’s it, and none of that yada yada.
Peer-2-Peer sales letters convert far better (you know that deep inside, Tiff)).
Anyhow, that’s where I am at… And am with you all the way!
Warmest regards,
Mark
