Sharing My Stupidity
Oh I love that I get to share my struggles (aka: stupidity) with you all. LOL But it’s these mistakes that let you know you’re not alone. That we don’t all have the answers right away. For days now I’ve been checking to see if my AdSense site was nidexed in Google. Googlebots were visiting it, after all, so why no traffic? No traffic = no AdSense income.
Soooooo….look what I discovered. (blushing):

The privacy settings are a function of the WordPress software, not the theme you’re using.
I made the same mistake on a blog. It’s odd that WP would default to block search engines, but I have found it useful on new sites still in development. That way they don’t get indexed with the “Hello World” post or a blank page.
Yep just found that out – apprently someone told me it used to not be this way. Weird! Oh well, just one of those steps it’s VERY important not to miss.
I just did the same thing with my new blog, Tiffany. And, like you, I shared publicly as I was sure I wasn’t the only one…and I wasn’t. lol
Hi Tiffany,
Great point. That happened to me before.
I have a “New WordPress Blog SetUp Checklist” that I’ll email you.
Thanks,
Mike
I did this on one of my blogs too and once I fixed it, it took FOREVER for Google to finally find all my pages. Hopefully it goes a lot quicker for you.
Ugh. Well a Gogolebot came last night late so I’m crossing my fingers
I did the same thing with a site. After installing my first WordPress site, two weeks later, I was wondering “Does Google hate me?”. Finally, after a little searching, I realized the error of my ways. Although Google may hate me (or so it is rumored), they did index my site. Thanks for sharing, good to know I’m not alone in sillyville.
BR,
Jeff
Well Tiffany, it’s a mistake that’s easy to make. It’s kinda like trying to walk through a door that, for whatever reason, you believe will swing open (say, you’ve turned the knob but forgot it’s ‘dead-bolted’ shut etc) and then your face goes WHAM!!
My wife tries to walk through closed “Sliding Glass Doors” OFTEN! (it’s Real DARN Funny too!). This is why we have to put those special “Window Stickers” on these sliding glass doors just for her
Anyway..
SQUIRREL!!
Oh yeah, almost forgot:
I guess the WP “Private / hide from google” thing you did is no big deal, but obviously we’re glad you shared it
Thanks Tiffany!

LOL, I made the reverse mistake. I left it on when testing a site. I posted about 200 articles, deleted them and repeated it more than 6 times. I can only imagine how many ping sites that site has been banned from.
LOL Buck that’s funny – well, I’m sure it wasn’t but you know what I mean
Way to go, Tiff! Now to soak up some of that Google love! LOL!
Now if I can figure out why I am getting clicks on my links at all. I am getting small amount of traffic and my privacy settings and all are correct but I am getting nothing!!!
Belinda
Too funny! And yet you have “helped” so many. If you are experienced with WP you would “Know” that something was wrong and where to go check…
If you are new to blogging and WP – how would you know? You are “da Bomb” for sharing everything!
curious that this theme didn’t put an adsense block right in the top left hand corner of your content instead of the sidebar….
More clicks in content usually… hmmmm
