Sharing on Sundays – Favorite Things

Pinterest

Hi everyone!

It’s Sharing on Sundays day and since I’ll do this every Sunday, let’s do 5 questions instead of 10. Here are the ones for today – it’s all about favorites:

1.) What’s your favorite movie – but more importantly, why? I like to see the meaning behind it – even if it’s just because it numbs you into laughter, that’s fine, too.

Mine is Gone With the Wind. I named my daughter Scarlett for a reason. Here’s why I love it – Scarlett is a fierce female character who is also vulnerable. She knows how to do what she has to in order to make her life better. She goes through moments when she’s horribly wrong but she later realizes it and her heart shines through. My favorite quote? “As God as my witness, as God as my witness they’re not going to lick me. I’m going to live through this and when it’s all over, I’ll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God as my witness, I’ll never be hungry again.” I like that because she’s pulling the power within her to not only survive but thrive. I love Scarlett. And I think it’s amazing that the sweet, shy Viviene Leigh was able to morph into such an amazing character onscreen.

2.) What’s your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite is Christmas because I love seeing the magic in the eyes of children. I love the Christmas tree picking night, making hot cocoa and starting a fire and leaving fudge or cookies for Santa.

We always go back and forth between a green tree and a flocked one but last year we found the perfect lightly flocked one and got the best of both worlds. As a child, I remember nights watching Christmas shows and stringing popcorn and cranberries for the tree. It always hurt my fingers but it was something I looked forward to!

Halloween holds a close second for me – so many fun memories as a kid. It’s also the day my grandmother (Maw-Maw) died and that was her favorite holiday, so it was fitting.

3.) What’s your favorite book – and why?

As much as I love the Gone with the Wind movie, I haven’t gotten through the book. I love books where it’s just a story about a regular person living their life. I was shocked that I enjoyed The Man Who Ate the 747 so much. But my favorite is probably She’s Come Undone. It resonated with me ;) I did LOVE the Twilight series – it was the first series I blew through in a matter of days. I couldn’t sleep I wanted to read so fast. When I got to the 3rd book, I had the flu BAD but I got in my car and ran into Target to get it and ran out.

4.) What’s your favorite TV show?

Oh good Lord I’m a Tivo-holic. Hmmm. Can we have different categories? Well since it’s my poll, sure! My favorite reality TV show right now is If You really Knew Me. This MTV show is about a program that goes into schools and breaks down the clique-barriers and you see all these kids who put on a façade break down. I wish they’d done that when I was in school. For dramas it’s gotta be Big Love! I swear you watch that show and think everyone ought to be a polygamist! LOL! They make it look like that’s the way it’s supposed to be. And I love Bill Paxton – he’s from my hometown :) For comedies it’s The Office. I love that show. It’s so cringe-worthy.

5.) What’s your favorite commercial?

Yeah I know – random. But Superbowl commercials are a huge deal so let’s talk commercials. For me, it’s a tie between the Old Spice guy and the Orbit Gum. I’ll post them below. One of my favorite movies is Crazy People – I wish they really did commercials like that in real life – that’d make life more interesting! I feel like the 80s were full of fun stuff – crazy big hair, colorful clothes. Reagan! LOL!

    Hey Tif

Enjoy the new Sunday Blog, also I really liked the Travis BumMarketing email I got today, with a plug for you. Way to go. Wishing you all the success.

  • Buck says:

I have favorite types of movies, rather than movies themselves. That might depend on my mood. One of my favorites that I miss is “Inside the Iron Triangle”. It is a Vietnam war movie based on the true story of an American officer who was captured by a VC. Over time, things turned and the VC was captured. Left behind was the VC’s diary. The notes from the US Officer and the VC were put together to tell the whole story of both men during the ordeal. It relates what and why they did what they did as well as the emotions they had while going through it. It has not been released in DVD and the video tapes are collectables, way out of my budget right now.

My favorite TV show is Off! I haven’t watched TV in a lot of years. The last series I watched on TV was The Apprentice. Even then, it had been a year or more since I sat down to watch TV shows.

    I don’t have a favorite commercial as I don’t see many.

My favorite book is the Bible. It is a love story, a life guide, and a motivational thinking guide all rolled into one.

    • Tiffany says:

Buck I love Apprentice too. I like the way Donald makes them feel comfortable like a friend and then he puts them in their place when they get too chummy in the boardroom. lol

  • 1. I have so many favorite movies. I have watched Dirty Dancing 4 million times. I’m a sucker for the good girl-bad boy romances. The Breakfast Club is a close second. I’m an 80s junkie.

    2. Thanksgiving – The gathering of family and friends without all of the pressures of gift-giving.

    3. Anything by Mitch Albom; Tuesdays with Morrie, For One More Day, The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I could read them over and over.

    4. The Office – I laugh out loud every time, even when watching the reruns for the 400th time.

    5. Right now, the GEICO commercial with the pig saying “Weeeeee.” I know it is horribly annoying, but it makes me giggle every time I see it.

  • Deborah says:

#1 – I love Gone with the Wind as well, but my true favorite is The Sound of Music. My fiance calls Roadhouse his “show stopper.” No matter what he’s doing he’ll stop if he’s flipping through the channels and sees it on. The Sound of Music is mine. When I was a kid, my mom would have it ready in the VCR so that I could watch it when I got home from Kindergarten!

#2 – I really love Thanksgiving more than anything else right now. Halloween is a ton of fun, but I guess now that I’m an adult with no children Christmas isn’t as exciting as it is stressful. Thanksgiving gives me a chance to slow down, cook good food (I love cooking), and spend time with my loved ones. I love fall, apples, pumpkins, and now (more than ever) expressing my thanks.

#3 – Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, hands down. That book was written way before its time and if you take the time to really pay attention to what you’re reading you’ll see how prophetic Ray Bradbury really was. Gigantic television screens, ear buds, and distorted concepts. My only regret is giving away the copy I had scribbled all over (after a lecture on the book) to someone to borrow. I’m still waiting for its return (many years later).

#4 – I don’t have a ton of time to watch TV, and I’m not even a huge fan, but I absolutely LOVE watching House (mmmm, Hugh Laurie) and Hell’s Kitchen (mmmmm, Gordon Ramsay). I used to be a die-hard ER fan… I think I have a season on DVD. Uh oh… there goes today’s productivity levels.

    #5 – Can’t think of one.

Thanks for sharing and encouraging participation. Hope to get to know you and others more!

  • Favorite tv shows are the Apprentice and Dancing with the Stars. Also, like you Tiff, I am a Fox news nut, and watch the Investigation channel. I prefer real life programs rather than reality t.v.Also a video of the old Ed Sullivan tv Show as Phyllis Diller told one of my jokes on tv (I also wrote others for her)
One of my favorite movies is “Catch Me If You Can” and despite his questionable actions, I really admire his creativity!
My favorite holiday is Christmas as I get to have all my kids and grandchildren here. I shop and wrap all year round and decorate to the hilt. I just love Christmas!
Favorite commercial is the e-trade one with the babies. I also like the recent UPS one with the music.
Favorite book is “Chicken Soup Mothers and Sons Soul” as I am in it. First time published in a book, although I have written eons for newspapers and magazines. That is why PLR ATM is right up my alley!

  • US Office, Tiff. Steve Carell is absolutely hilarious! I’m so sad he is going to leave.

  • John says:

    Morning All!

Let’s see….. Movies? Any James Bond movie, but I like the newer ones with Daniel Craig. If there’s a Bond marathon on any of the stations–no work will get done!

Book? A nonfiction book titled: Submarine Commander. Written by the Executive Officer from my Dad’s WWII submarine USS Atule. It gave me some insight from another perspective on what my Dad did in WWII. If you search “eternal patrol” on squidoo you’ll find my submarine and lost boat lenses. I’ve always been inspired by what our submariners and all our servicemen and women did and do in defense of our nation and freedoms.

Holiday? Thanksgiving! Everyone is there from grandparents to the little ones sitting at “the kid’s table.”

TV? Castle! Another mystery writer/crime show! (Yes I used to watch Murder, She Wrote as well!)

Commercial? A Hardee’s commercial with 2 teen girls at a recptionist’s desk. One complained that she quit working at Hardee’s because making the hand breaded chicken strips was too muc work. Why not use the frozen nuggets like
everyone else. The phone rings and the other teen says, “What’s with the phones around here already?” I laugh and my teens don’t think it’s funny…..

Have a nice day! Off to put burgers on the grill! Thanks, Tiffany!

    • Tiffany says:

Deborah – I’ve never seen Sound of Music! I love Thanksgiving too. I love ALL holidays lol. I had to read F151 in high school and of course had my mind on boys. I think they waste good literature on the youth. I also love House and Hell’s Kitchen!

Barbara – I tried watching DWTS but I can’t get into it for some reason LOL! I wanted to watch The Situation on it. Love Fox News though! How cool tha you’re in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book!

Jeff – me too – Son of a LINT LICKER! Ha ha ha!

Adrian – I love Grease too! And Brewster’s Millions. So sorry you’re going to be a little lesss happy this Christmas :( I’ll keep you in my thoughts. I must watch this Mentalist – lots of people talking about it.

Vicki – the hubby’s a big LOTR fan too. You too with the Twilight? lol. I’m really into Jodi Picoult right now. I’m reading Songs of the Humpback Whales. I like them because they switch characters and sometimes time periods. I tried getting into True Blood but the acting in Season1 sucked – everyone says it gets a ton better after that but I can’t get past season 1. LOL! I love Vampire Diaries though.

John – Gotta love the kids tables! We had those too. lol. LOL about the Hardees commericals. I wish we had Hardees here – they have great roast beef sandwiches!

  • Vicki says:

    This is fun.

1.) What’s your favorite movie – but more importantly, why?
Lord of the Rings is one of my favorites. I loved the books but the movie put faces with the characters. Also, anything with Hugh Jackman.

2.) What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas. It takes me back to when I was a kid. My Dad would take my sister and me out in the woods to find a tree. And I absolutely love the lights on the tree, they are just so cheerful.

3.) What’s your favorite book – and why?
I have a lot of favorite books. I read all 4 Twilight books within a 2 week period. My son got me interested in a series called “A Song of
Ice and Fire”. It has recently been picked up by HBO as a new series for 2011. I recently read the Stephanie Plum books which are very funny and I love all of Dean Koontz books.

4.) What’s your favorite TV show?
Gee I have a lot of these also. True Blood, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and Fringe to name a few. I also like the History and Discovery channels.

    5.) What’s your favorite commercial?
    I don’t watch a lot of commercials since I have a DVR.

  • Adrian Donaldson says:

Favourite Movie – Grease without a doubt. I love rock’n'roll and rockabilly and the whole concept and image of the 50′s. Yes, I can sing along as long as nobody’s in the same town. It’s just a feel good film -IMHO. Brewsters Millions is second with a very good message.

Favourite Holiday – Your answer indicates you mean public holiday but over here in the UK that does not mean much. Most businesses close down for Christmas Day but that’s about it. When I was a kid the shops shut at lunch time on a Wednesday and were shut all day on Sunday. These days everything seems to be open 24/7. As for Christmas – this will be the first Christmas Day without the twins. Nuff said..

Favourite book – Not sure I have a favourite book but have loads of favourite authors. I’m currently working through the titles of Lee Child, James Patterson, Michael Connelly, Joesph Finder, Eric Van Lustbader and the like.

Since the wife has downsized my life I do not have a television. I do enjoy when I have the chance, Star Trek (all versions)and Smallville. I’ve also seen a few episodes of The Mentalist. From when I was growing up I loved Happy Days and Jack Good’s ‘Let’s Rock’ (Youtube it)

I had to dig around for this ad by Pepsi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5ctPcwWjYc.

  • Jeff Molnar says:

I love that Orbit Gum Commercial. No matter how many times I see it I always laugh. Thanks for brighting up my day.

  • Patricia says:

    1. My favorite used to be Gone with the Wind, but now it’s Chicago. Love the music! The Notebook was great, too.
    2. Christmas is my favorite. I have ALWAYS had a real tree. One year when I was a teen, my parents received a free fake tree when they bought a refrigerator. I hated it, so I bought a real tree. That was the year with 2 Christmas trees :)
    3. I read Gone with the Wind 3 times. I love historical novels because of the perspective of how people lived at the time. I also enjoy David Balducci, etc.
    4. I am missing 24. Loved that show. Love Fox News. Also Dancing with the Stars and Grey’s Anatomy.
    5. Anything that makes me laugh.

  • Cheryl says:

    1. I can’t pick just one movie. I love action movies…Iron Man, Star Trek, GI Joe, Pirates of the Caribbean. I adore Chocolat and While You Were Sleeping. I also love James Bond and Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future.

    2. Christmas is my favorite time. I love the magic and decorations and shopping. Man, I love shopping. I also love trying to find new hiding places to keep my 3 sons’ presents.

    3. My favorite books are The Goblet of Fire (the final book where Harry had real innocence), most of the Stephanie Plum series. I love cozy mysteries…MC Beaton, Death on Demand etc, and thrillers like Tom Clancy, Jon Land, Joel Rosenberg, Vince Flynn. I read a ton.

    4. We love Amazing Race and Project Runway. Burn Notice is awesome as is Warehouse 13, Legend of the Seeker, Castle and Fringe. We don’t watch a lot of network tv (doesn’t sound like it!), we DO watch a lot of Netflix. We stay behind on most shows because we wait to watch the entire seasons quickly, and without commercials.

    5. We do watch quite a bit of sports so my favorite commercials are from ESPN. They’re hilarious!

  • Charity says:

1.) What’s your favorite movie – but more importantly, why?
I have been a Gone With The Wind FANTATIC since I was in about 8th grade when we watched it at school. I was the only kid I knew growing up who had her room completed decorated in Gone With The Wind (and a little James Dean) Mind you, this was the 80′s so it was not cool. LOL My dog’s name is Scarlett. :)

2.) What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas. Everyone seems happier at Christmas. I love to cool, crisp air and the holiday spirit. I love the smells and the lights and the hopeful feeling.

3.) What’s your favorite book – and why?
I don’t get to read much and I mostly read nonfiction. My favorite right now would have to be “Women, Food and God. GREAT BOOK.

4.) What’s your favorite TV show?
Well, I ADORE Everybody Loves Raymond. I also like the Apprentice, Big Brother, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Hoarders and Amazing Race.

    5.) What’s your favorite commercial?
We have Tivo so I don’t watch many commercials, but I will stop the TV just to watch that Geico commercial with the little piggy holding his head out the window saying “Wheeeee…. wheeeee….”

  • Favorite book – Gone with the Wind. Read it when I was in 7th Grade. Would rush home from school to read it. Named my daughter Tara. Although I wanted to name her Scarlett but was talked out of it. She definitely fits both names.

Favorite TV Shows – West Wing. Have the full series. NCIS with Mark Harmon.

Favorite Holiday – Easter. Used to make rhyming clues and everybody had to figure them out to find just their eggs which were numbered. Had great prizes for the winning team.

Favorite Movie – Anything where the heroine (woman) kicks butt.

    No favorite commercials.

  • Nancy says:

1.) What’s your favorite movie – but more importantly, why?

Forrest Gump, because it just goes to show what you can do when you don’t know you can’t.

2.) What’s your favorite holiday and why?

    Thanksgiving…the food!!

3.) What’s your favorite book – and why?

So many books, so little time. Impossible to pick a favorite.

4.) What’s your favorite TV show?

Have not really watched TV in 19 years, so I have to go way back and answer MASH.

    5.) What’s your favorite commercial?

Again, I don’t watch TV, so I don’t know many current commercials, but I got a kick out of those hamsters on the KIA Soul commercial.

    • Tiffany says:

Patricia – The Notebook was such a great book too – read it if you haven’t. Good movie too though! One Christmas, right when my parents divorced, my sister and I realized my dad was depressed and not doing a tree, so we got a fake one down – like 4 foot tall – out of the attic and we made ornaments from construction paper. He came home from work and didn’t even notice and cried when we finally pointed it out to him. I always loved that moment! It was sad but I felt good bringing the holiday sprit to him in a time of need. Greys is SO good….

Cheryl – I love Iron Man, Chocolat, and While You Were Sleeping – one of my favorite movies I smoehow think of as a Christmas movie! I like doing the season w/out commercials too – I’m doing that with ER.

Charity – What an awesome room decor! I would have loved that! In the 80s as a teen, I had scantily clad posters of David Lee Roth and Motley Crue on my walls. My poor mom!

Judith – another GWTW fan! Easter is great fun too!

Monty – I remember some of those pizza commercials!

Ken – I read in my hour long baths and right before bed. Oh and while waiting 45 mins between the time my daughter gets out and my son gets out. LOL! I’ll try to find the Ford Country book.

Lisa – love ET! I just downloaded Eat Pray Love to my Kindle but haven’t read it yet.

Nancy – another great movie! I love my TV but applaud you for not. LOL! The hamsters are funny. Is that the “You can go with THIS or you can go with THAT” commercial?

  • Lisa Oliver says:

    Hi Tiff,

Thank you for sharing your favorite things – I am a Gone with the Wind fan as well but the book, not the movie. My picks?

    1. Favorite movie – ET – I have seen it more times than I can count and I still jump, laugh and cry in the right places.

    2. Favorite holiday – is Christmas – we live at the beach and it is the time when my 6 children and now 7 grandchildren all come to visit, and hang out and enjoy good company, food and the beach of course

    3. Favorite book – lol, I have soooo many of them – the Twilight series definitely; anything written by Barbara Sher; Stephanie Plum; Eat Pray Love; Dr. Phil Mcgraw; Jonathan Kellerman; oooh I could just keep writing here

    4. Favorite television show – used to be CSI but Bones is a strong favorite and any documentaries that explore religion, crime (or more to the point the criminal mind) and I am really enjoying re-runs of the A-Team right now

    5. Favorite commercial – has to be the cadbury gorilla doing his Phil Collins routine – you can see it on YouTube

Loving the responses from others – what a diverse bunch we are, :)

    Hey Super Mom,

I notice you like to read, I don’t know how you find time, however if you really want to read something hilarious, buy John Chrisham new short story book ” Ford Country ” The first story is named the ” Blood Drive ” I have read at least 100 books from all the current great authors on the book selves at Barnes& Noble.

This short story will apsolutely break you and your husband up, it is the funniest piece of printed material I have ever read; it goes for $10 bucks at local stores.

My wife thought I was going nuts laughing out loud by myself, it have never done that in any book before.

Give it a try, I know your husband will break up reading it.

    Cheers

  • 1. I would have to say Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Sometimes it’s good to get away from reality and enjoy a fantasy world.

    2. I love Christmas because even though there is a lot of anxiety surrounded by this holiday, the joy it brings to my 10 year old son is worth it all. Plus it’s the time we celebrate the birth of our saviour.

    3. Favorite books are the same as my favorite movies, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. I also enjoy reading books by John Steinbeck.

    4. Lots of them. My Name is Earl is the funniest tv show ever. I also love pretty much anything that comes on The Discovery Channel and the History Channel.

    5. Several years ago there where some commercials by Little Caesars Pizza. They were the funniest.

Some of my favorite TV shows are Dancing With The Stars, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Castle.

My favorite book is The Secret as I’m a firm believer on positive thinking. I also enjoy reading books by Joel Osteen and books on WordPress.

My favorite Holiday is Thanksgiving as I love to cook with Christmas following behind it.

My favorite commercial was the Chinese guy where he cloned himself so he could keep up with all his projects. Many times I have felt the need to clone myself so I can keep up with all the projects I’m doing and learning like creating WordPress themes, Auto Blogging, Amazon affiliate stores and PLR writing.

  • Rebecca says:

    1) My favorite movie is “Anne of Green Gables”. I have seen it so many times but I still cry when she gets into the heart of the older man that adopts her. She started out with a rough life but ended up in a wonderful family who loved her.

    2) My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I also like the pressure of no gifting giving at this time. Just being with family, relaxing, eating, enjoying each other, love it.

    3) My favorite book is the Bible. It is really a road map for living to me. I always find the answers I need.

    4) I don’t usually watch commercials but the other day I really got tickled at the Aflac commercial where the deck was going after lemonade and someone took it just as he was dunking his beak and he ended up in the Jalapeno pepper jar. I actually laughed out loud.

  • Rob says:

Favorite movie of the day is The Blindside. Stayed awake til 1:am to watch it and had tears flowing down my cheeks. What a great story about the power of determination, kindness and compassion.
And, I’m standing on my head with excitement looking forward to seeing Secretariat – my best friend and I sat on the floor in front of the black and white TV watching Secretariat put 16 lengths between himself and the rest of the pack(yes, I AM that old).We were sooo excited we almost wet our pants with joy.We were horsewomen back then.

Favorite TV show(s) – Modern Family – our family is a little bit like that;multi-ethnic with Hispanic,Greek,Lebanese and Iraqi. Our own little group of crazies filled with love for each other.
I confess to being a TV junkie and agree w/Judith about NCIS. Also love Burn Notice and just can’t wait for a new season of Justified with Timothy Olyphant(yum).

  • Dianne says:

Ok Tiff. Here goes my answers:

    1) I LOVE Gone With the Wind, Titanic, the Back To The Future trilogy and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I have recently become a fan of the new Star Trek movies–don’t ask me why…

    2) Christmas. But that being said, I am just gong to HAVE TO cut back this year. My house is like a winter wonderland with a christmas tree in every room of the house and they all have different themes. The family room tree (the one Santa visits ;) has red and gold, the main living room tree has snowmen, the dining room has german ornaments from visits there, the sun room has the sea theme with all different things that have to do with the ocean, beach etc. as we love to cruise and pick up ornaments from all the different Caribbean islands, my husband has a space and aeronautical tree in the loft as he is a pilot (it also has things like chocolate donuts, cracker barrel ornaments and toy story ornaments) plus the girls used to put trees in their rooms…The whole kitchen is also done in the snowman theme…like I said, I NEED TO CUT BACK!!! :) P.S. I did a Squidoo Lens on this.

    3) Just finishing “The 5000 Year Leap” with a forward by Glenn Beck… everyone in America should have to read this.

    4) NEVER miss Fringe. Used to tape 24. House. Grey’s Anatomy. Go to sleep watching Forensic Files, Criminal Minds, ID Discovery Channel…should have gone into the law enforcement field (my dad was FBI).

    5) The e-trade babies and some of the newer GEICO ones especially the little piggy.

    Have a great day Tiff

  • Carol O says:

Favorite Book: That’s a tough one. I have multiple bookshelves filled with all types of books. I am voracious reader but I guess I would say anything by mysteries author Lisa Jackson and Karen Slaughter and Joel Osteen’s Your Best Life Now. Oh and I love the Chicken Soup books.

Favorite TV Show: NCIS and Bones. Not crazy about reality shows. I do enjoy nature shows (National Geographic channel), real life shows like Animal Cops and DIY shows. Enjoy History Channel and The Discovery Channel.

Favorite Commercial: Don’t really have one.

    • Tiffany says:

Favorite movie–Lord of the Rings trilogy with Return of the King the best loved. Good vs Evil, Loyalty, Love and Friendship. Faith. All big themes in these movies. Also liked the latest Star Trek movie. Love the possibilities the movie opens up. And Galaxy Quest and Bowfinger. LOL

Favorite holiday Thanksgiving because of the food. Followed by all the other holidays because of the food! Love to cook and bake and share the love!

Favorite tv shows Bones, Chuck, Doctor Who, Castle, White Collar, Covert Affairs, NCIS, Warehouse 13. I like science fiction, comedies and adventures. Don’t much care for reality shows.

Favorite book The Healing Code by Alex Loyd and Ben Johnson A 6 minute solution to heal the source of any health, success or relationship issue. I use the code myself and it works. I think it works on scriptural principles and quantum physics backs it up. Check it out.

Favorite commercial I like the Geico piggy one. I also like the miniature giraffe one. LOL.. But it think my favorite is an Old Spice one about their moisturizing body wash that uses a centaur in the shower as a spokesperson…I laughed so hard!

I’m really enjoying getting to know you and everyone else.

    TTFN (tata for now)!

  • Hands down it’s LOTR. I waited 20+ yrs, for these movies, they exceeded all my expectations. I devoured the book series in my teens and have read them at least 6 times.
They basically introduced me to the good vs evil story and have influenced my thinking through the years.

My favorite holiday was at Bournemouth in England where I went Fishing for Mackerel with my dad on a big boat, I was about 12. I don’t consider Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and the like holidays, to me they are celebrations of events.

Favorite books was the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings for reason already mentioned. But a close 2nd is Stephen R. Donaldson’s series “The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever” about a down on himself leper who falls into dream and is transported to another world where people believe him to be the one foretold as savior of their world. Donaldson is every bit a creator of stunning, visual worlds as Tolkien. Then there is Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer novels which influenced my mindset a good deal as a teen. An anti-hero of sorts who could take any punishment dished out, and still kick-ass.

Too many favorite Tv shows to list, been watching a long time, I’d have to list them by Decade. Though I had a late start( we didn’t get our first TV till I was Ten) I made up for the lost time. Our first Tv was black & white and had a box on the side where you inserted the equivalent of a quarter for Two hours viewing time. I was around 12yrs old when I watched my first color movie on a color Tv, and It was the Sound of Music. I still have a soft spot for the song Edelweiss.

Past recent favorites were “The Shield”, “Deadliest Catch”. At this present time my favorites are “Sons of Anarchy”, “Breaking Bad”, “Dark Blue” “The Colony” and “Swords:Life on the Line”.

Commercials, wow there’s been so many but the ones I think are funniest are the PG Tips commercials from my youth, they still crack me up.
    Brooke Bond PG Tips
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgzEBLa3PPk&NR=1 and
    ” Where’s The Beef?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOyQfd7OqIY&feature=PlayList&p=8447BEDE164E0CA2&index=0&playnext=1

and all time favorite the Budweiser frogs series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS3op_7QVIY&feature=related

and I’m throwing this in cuz it’s too funny not to River Dancing Chimps
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLtR8_qw_yM

Okay I’m done, but I may be back.

  • Tiff – I don’t know that commercial…the one I remember is the hamsters driving in their KIA and jammin’ to their tunes, while all the other hamsters are running on their exercise wheels.

  • Kater says:

    Ok,

    1. Movie: Sound of Music and Silence of the Lambs (what does that say about me??)

    2. Holiday: Halloween cause I love making the kids squeal and get bug-eyed.

    3. Favorite Book: eh, probably a childhood book “Brighty of the Grand Canyon” about wild burros surviving and being saved in the West. A fairy tail, oops tale.

    4. Tv Show. Dexter, Bones, CSI LV, and Nurse Jackie

    5. Commercial. Aahhh. There will never be another like it. I used to work for this company and I was totally so proud when they came out with this commercial. It was fun, funny and really captured the essence of what we did as a technology company. Plus, my I’m a cat person so that made it even more perfect.

Hi Tiff. Arriving a little late to the festivities, Let’s see here favorite movie, many, I am a movie person, movies are my form of escape. 1st would be Phenomena, with John Travolta, because the tumor he has, gives him what we would call super powers, and I believe that we all have that potential, were just lost, and it just remains out of hour reach. We are all much more gifted than we think. My favorite book another tough one, I think it would be “Note’s to Myself” by Hugh Prather and another of his works “I touched the Earth and the Earth Touched Me” because they where books I read early in my teens, and they shaped me into who I am, and how I would look at the world. Favorite Holiday, July 4Th, the birth of our Nation, the most creative place on the Planet Creation=creative which= America, I hope! God Bless. And Coffee is my favorite ice-cream. Thanks for sharing everyone it was fun reading. Scott****

Scott – Drat! Ice cream was gonna make it into another questionnaire. LOL!

  • Hi Tiffany:

    Since I don’t watch TV much, I’ll answer #2 and #3.

#2. Like you, Christmas is my favorite. The cool weather, lights, family, and kids getting all “giddy”…what more can you want?

#3. My favorite book is one that changed my life. Rich Dad Poor Dad made me see money in a whole different way and I recommend it to everyone, especially young ones. Consumer debt kills the Financial Freedom dream and it’s best to form a healthy financial mind early. I did a Lens a while back, probably b/c of your help and inspiration (I don’t quite remember):

2.) What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Christmas, so much fun wrapping presents and watching the kids faces when they open them. And lots of time catching up with family – and trifle – yum!

Twilight saga once again, I sat and read all 4 in a row and couldn’t put them down.

4.) What’s your favorite TV show?

Hmmmm, House, Greys Anatomy and recently I’ve been watching Parenthood and quite enjoy it.

    5.) What’s your favorite commercial?

Not sure if I have a favourite commercial, can’t think of one just now anyway.

  • Ngahiwi says:

    Tiff,

I couldn’t believe it when I saw you loved ‘Gone with the Wind’ as your most fav movie. I swear you’re much too young:)-

    I saw that movie 9 times…LOL!
The first time I saw it I was quite young myself, but the beauty and splendour of the movie enthralled me.

I loved everything about that movie. The history of civil war, the splendid costumes, (I’ll never forget that red dress) Clarke Gable (Hmmnn) ALL the actors including the vivacious Viven Leigh, the plot, the dialogue…Yes…What an amazing movie! “Frankly my dear…I don’t give a damn”

I don’t know if it won an oscar. It should have been a clean sweep…Easy.
“Frankly my dear…I don’t give a damn”. Best movie ever!

Scarlett’s is a beautiful name. I’m glad you named your daughter Scarlett.

    • Tiffany says:

Yes Ngahiwi I have been watching GWTW since I was young. I always loved it. My Scarlett is angry that we named her middle name Raeanne instead of Viviene. I wanted to name her Scarlett Viviene Dow but her dad thought that was too schticky. lol

This is very late, but I was determined to get to your sunday blog :)

I’m really ‘over’ most of the TV programs and movies that are available these days. I do love a good drama any day, or a spoof series or movie, so long as there aren’t too many body parts floating around.

I watched one recently but don’t recall the name. It was on cable here in Australia, and starred Robert Redford and Brad Pitt… can you imagine a better pair?

I really love any animal programs on National Geographic. Absolutely love dogs, but all animals and their preservation are top of my list.

I love what the ASPCA and other SPCA teams in the US do, and I wish Australia had those special teams to watch over our little creatures, educate people, and fine or jail people for cruelty.

I love Cesar Millan the dog whisperer. He’s our hero, and I hope to get him to our daughter’s home in San Diego before her first baby arrives in March 2011. They have 2 Akitas, 1 kitten and 1 parrot. Wish me luck :)

Holidays – I’ve always loved Christmas more than any other holiday season for many of the reasons given by others above me, except that in Australia we have our hottest days then and have to use our air conditioners for comfort. But we have turkey, ham, lobster… hot veggies, salads… even B.B.Qs at times, and everyone gets into the spirit.

My hubby and I now celebrate Christmas with our two married daughters via Skype of all things. It’s just great to see each other.

We celebrated our first US Thanksgiving in ’09 with our daughter in San Diego (married to a former Military guy of whom we’re SOooo proud. I can’t wait to get back for another Thanksgiving… the bean dish and pumpkin pie, and juicy turkey were fabulous, and our taste buds loved some of the foods that we hadn’t experienced before.

    We loved the U.S. :)

    Catherine
