Bring the Fresh Review – Behind the Scenes of Rich Jerk Part 1
Ah this is probably the one thing I looked most forward to when I got signed up to Bring the Fresh full disclosure – the Rich Jerk “behind the scenes” lessons. I was the ghostwriter who got asked to create a zillion Rich Jerk knock offs. I felt the product itself was okay – nothing earth shattering – but it was the marketing that Kelly Felix (aka: Rich Jerk) did that blew everyone’s socks off. He pioneered the method of offending to get sales. And it worked!
Eventually, the RJ shtick got old and I quit liking him when he made that comment about offering sex to 9/11 widows or something. But I don’t know if that was Kelly or the people involved in RJ since it became an entity in itself. But regardless, there’s a lot to learn from his entire journey from that product.
So there are 3 videos for the behind the scenes of Rich Jerk portion. Let’s review the first one here.
Video 1 is 1 hour 17 minutes and what’s weird is, since this is something I look forward to, length doesn’t bother me at all. In this video, they say we learn about a small change that made a big difference in the sales letter. He will tell us about his character evolution. There’s information about a million dollar deal forum. And then we hear about the Rich Jerk infomercial.
I like the little insight we learn about how Kelly tweaked his site. We hear about how Kelly’s acting history affected his Internet marketing. It’s taking the video a long time to load. Mike gets on streaks where he’s the only one doing the talking and Kelly’s just saying “Mhm.” I’d like to hear more from Kelly in this section because it’s his business with RJ.
One thing you notice when you go through this entire course – you know how most people (ask yourself if you do this) flit from one thing to another? When Kelly Felix and Mike Long want to do something, they take time and do it right. Maybe that’s because they’re not panicked for money and out of desperation mode. I’m not sure.
But like with the 1 article to rule them all – it took hours to get that start to finish perfect. In this video Kelly speaks of the time he spent just tweaking the sales copy for this product. When the gurus do something, they don’t half ass it.
A little annoying because I keep having the video stall. So I have to refresh the video page,re-log in and then wait for the thing to load again. A lot of this happened in Tristan Bull’s Guru Overwhelm, which literally prevented me from reviewing the product. This is the 1st time it’s happened in my review of Bring the Fresh.
Okay it’s loading faster now – may be my connection dragging for some reason today. My son’s Xbox is dragging too. I’m listening to some stories which help me get to know Kelly better but I don’t know…maybe I get in a hurry and don’t want the fluff. On the other hand, sometimes I like the getting to know you information that helps me pull things together. Right now I’m in an impatient mood. The stories serve a purpose – to illustrate the lesson. I think if it was just him telling the story start to finish, I’d be enjoying it more than watching two guys laugh about – hee hee haw haw. I just want to say, “Move along.”
Now I have a problem. They’re talking about tactics like scarcity for example – disdain being shown for it, and admittance that they too used to use those tactics. That’s all well and good but here’s where my issue arises… top marketers will find another tactic to use and do you think they’re going to be talking with disdain about it while it’s still hot? No.
There have been several lately – the gurus retiring. Followed by gurus making fun of those who say they’re retiring (even if they themselves did it). The gurus claiming they’re one of the good guys exposing bad guys, even though they themselves are one of the bad guys.
It’s fine to analyze things in the past, but I want to see current sales tactics too. I know RJ is a thing of the past and this is how he evolved that business. Gotta keep that in mind. Kelly was cutting edge on this strategy. What I’d love to hear from him (and maybe we will) is info product sales strategies. So far I’ve learned affiliate marketing well from him. I’m enjoying the article and SEO info. But as far as RJ case study goes, I hope i hear more about how to BE cutting edge on this line of work.
I remember one of the first series of videos I watched in BTF were Kelly Felix solo. I really enjoyed those. I wish this case study was him doing the same. This double team discussion thing seems to drag out big time. It almost feels as if Kelly isn’t comfortable being a teacher with his face as the main one. Yet he’s REALLY good at it. Laid back but really good.
Just had an AHA moment. It was 55 minutes in but it was something that made it all okay. Worth watching the back and forth. Something clicked. I want to experiment with this. THIS is why it’s SO very important to force yourself through a product from START to FINISH. Look at how I was complaining and then BOOM – something I heard was great! It’s a nugget that could make me a lot of money.
We get to hear the commercials Rich Jerk did – on Howard Stern – thank God he played them because I ABHOR Stern. And then one on regular radio. That was cuter to me. We watch the infomercial – all way out of my price range. But it’s nice seeing what they do.
Okay end of video 1. Tomorrow I’ll be doing video 2 of the Rich Jerk “behind the scenes” section of Bring the Fresh.
Bring the Fresh Review – Mike Long’s One Article to Rule Them All Video 1
Excited to continue my Bring the Fresh review today because I’m finally arriving at Mike Long’s One Article to Rule Them All series – it’s a 4 part series. One thing I admire is Mike’s commitment to writing.
The only thing I dread is that it’s going to require spinning – a task I abhor. But they say it’s a unique strategy for them so I’m anxious to see it.
This video is 49:57 minutes. He talks about how he spent all night tweaking his one article. I think too often we slap random content up – I’m guilty, too. It needs to be GREAT for traffic and sharing. Backstory until about the 16 minute mark.
Mike is teaching us focus in the way he writes. Wow I’m a writer and I am not even this focused. He has good advice! He has a passion for writing and I’m the same way – silly when it comes to words. So what I’m getting is that you spend a lot of time making one really good article – and then setting up spin syntax and then it’s like you wrote hundreds of good articles.
Maybe I ought to take a second look at spinning – I always try to rush through it. Mike has a very specific system for creating content. You really get a feel for the “over the shoulder” vibe of the Full Disclosure membership here in this video – you’re a friend, sitting here watching Mike show you his system. It’s casual and interesting to me. We even get to meet his Mom!
Mike is NOT just about keywords. He’s about grabbing people’s attention. I like this and admittedly, I fall into the “gotta use keywords” trap and forget to pique people’s interest. He talks about a warning that’s important and I see people teaching this mistake.
He showed us in this Bring the Fresh video how he gets organized to prepare writing the article, how he researches, how he maps it all out. The next video we should get to see the actual writing unfold.

Bring the Fresh Review – Mike Long SEO Video 2
Today we’re continuing on with my thorough Bring the Fresh review – I’m moving into Full Disclosure area now and today I’m doing the Mike Long SEO Video #2. It says it’s about article creation and more. I’m happy because in our conversation about the course initially, Mike couldn’t WAIT for me to get into his article stuff and I’m finally getting closer (it’s next up)!
To date, I HIGHLY recommend the Core version – so now I’m reviewing Full Disclosure to see if that’s worth the additional monthly payment for a few months. Let’s get to it! Mike’s video is about 45 minutes long.
Okay Mike starts off with a 7 minute seminar-ish speech. He’s very chill – very laid back – has Kelly rubbed off on him and stolen his hyperness? Gasp! LOL – It’s more chit chat and why and who stuff than how. Then he gets going with case studies.
He gives us an update on the site we last saw in the previous video. I like how he and Kelly review quickly what was last talked about before moving on. You know what I like watching Kelly and Mike in these videos? They’re like kids in a candy store – you see them get all excited and crack a grin when their site gains – or when it’s even on page 2 quickly. It’s no different from the excitement you or I feel when our sites do well.
I discover a new Twitterlike site with dofollow links. Nice! With a tip about signing up for SEO. Likey. So I signed up and did that – remember I’m working on the Taking Blood Pressure site. Which reminds me I ought to remove the WP Robot from that during my review. I put it up this past week. However I think I’m going to keep it up. They do good reviews with books and machines both.
Right now I’m averaging about 20 uniques per day – no sales yet though. I’m #5 on Scroogle.org for taking blood pressure.
LOL Mike tells us how and why he got banned from a forum – I like that! Hilarious – he’s ranked well to get revenge on someone using his SEO skills. LOL! I often think of doing this with bad customer service at offline places, too.
We’re 23 minutes in and until now, it’s been the “look over my shoulder to see what I achieved” talk. Now we’re getting into how he did it.
Oh Lordy Mike talks about the importance of organization – looks like I’m doomed! He talks about Seinfeld. Love it! Mike’s so personable – I’d love to hang out and talk politics and current affairs with him. These kind of times I sometimes wish I could be “one of the guys” for a day and hang out with the guy gurus. I feel like I’d stick out like a sore thumb as me. LOL
Mike makes a LOT of sense talking about writing yourself versus outsourcing. He offers up a very good strategy for this and it’s exactly what I do for my affiliate sites. It’s a perfect blend.
I KNEW he’d not fail me. At about 31:00 he sneaks in an Obama jab – not by name but I got it –
Love it, Mike. He apologizes for getting political. He can’t help himself. He’s like the Seinfeld episode, as I stated before – where every episode has Superman somewhere in it.
So Mike goes over how he gathers some ideas on what to write about. Eew I’m gonna have to spin. I hate spinning. I know I should do it but I swear I’m almost faster writing from scratch than spinning stuff.
So I created a title according to his specifications. I created the whole article his way (I hope). I was about to post it on my site until I realized he wanted this to be posted as a backlink TO our domains, so I submitted it to Ezine Articles today. He ends the video telling us he’s going to chop up the lesson for us.
All in all I feel too much time was spent showing us their site accomplishments but I know this is necessary for non-believers. Still, I just want to get to work. I liked the strategy for mapping out the article funnel. I liked the site tips on what to use. I like that it feels like Mike’s just one of us – happy for small victories where not every day is a million dollar launch day.
I can’t help being a Bring the Fresh fan – I’m learning so much I just enjoy the process.
Bring the Fresh Review Part 3
So in part 2 of my Bring the Fresh review, I talked about how the hot sheet has this amazing section in it that I feel is very powerful (and I had printed out beforehand when someone sent it to me). I was conflicted about whether to go ahead and do the steps NOW or wait until I’d watched the rest of the Bring the Fresh videos on market research, etc.
Then I started thinking, why not both? I’ll do it before AND after. More money that way anyway, right? I grabbed my print out of this section and bought the full version of Market Samurai. Here’s a pisser…I bought the full version for $149. I then went to see if they had an affiliate program to create a link in my blog. I read this on their page: “The best way to purchase Market Samurai is to first sign up for a free trial of Market Samurai , then immediately purchase. (This unlocks a 35% discount off the normal price of Market Samurai, only available for the first 7 days of your trial.)” So I could have saved 35%. Not cool. Anyway…at least now YOU’LL know!
