Target Audience, New Site, 365-Day Prep Work, Favicons
Hi everyone! How was your week? Mine was very productive and I feel so good about 2012. Let’s chat about a few things today.
#1 – Stay focused on your target audience this year.
I got a nice unsubscribe today that said:
I am sure you are sincere in what you do but I just find too much of your material is “folksy” stuff and “life lessons” and that just doesn’t work for me.
I don’t mind that kind of unsubscribe because I’ve felt the same way about other people before! There are many people who want a pure 100% business dialogue. Others are polar opposite. This coming year, I plan to hone in on those who appreciate my message as is even more.
Don’t go changing for people to a degree where you don’t feel like yourself anymore. That person above wasn’t mean or rude. Just let me know I simply wasn’t his cup of tea, and I’m okay with that!
Another friend online sent me a FB message asking the common question, “Why would someone listen to ME?” Well not everyone will. But there will be some people who need your message and want to hear it the way you do it. Don’t worry about that – there are followers for everyone.
#2 – I got my Amazon site launched for the 2012 New Year!
Remember I wanted to stay focused on the toy niche, right? My domains have non evergreen words in them, like 2011. That wasn’t smart. So this year, I registered toytestdrive.com and last night I got the blog set up and woke up this morning to 6 visits by Googlebots! Nice
Initially, I wanted to name it TiffsToys.com but then I figured that sounded almost a little X rated like some “other” kind of “toys.”
As you can see, I’m no graphics expert but I did what I could using Paint and screen shots. Looks fine to me! I made a static page and I plan to have categories like “dolls” on the left sidebar and brand names like “Barbie” on the right sidebar.
What I like about making this a VERY personal site with my family and names in it is that it won’t be easily copied by copycats. I will have Google alerts for everything I do in a specific way so I’ll know if I’m being ripped off. My other sites had generic articles with zero personality, so those were easy to steal from me.
This site is going to start with all the toys my kids got for Christmas! And what I plan to do is, once I go through their toys, buy toys that I will donate to the Women’s Shelter (women and kids).
#3 – Have you done your prep work for the 365-day challenge yet?
If not, get to it! You can make the commitment to the challenge here. (It doesn’t cost anything to participate). You have today and tomorrow to get it planned out – maybe just a week’s worth – it doesn’t have to be a full month like I did. But here’s what I did so far:
I outlined 40 days’ worth of PLR for the PLR Mini Mart.
Craig graciously helped me get my other PLR store that will launch in 2012 – ResellPLRPacks.com – set up. It doesn’t have any product yet, but here’s what I plan for this one. You know how with the hCG pack I had: 1 eBook, 1 opt in report, 52 articles, 10 half page blog posts, 7 email autoresponders, and a 5 page sales letter? Well that’s what this store will have.
Each pack that gets released will have all of that. People will be able to buy all items or just those they want. THEN they’ll be able to put it on THEIR own PLR store. I already mapped out the first topic but I won’t reveal it until it’s done.
I outlined my info product for 2012. I’m starting with a Newbie’s Guide to Internet Marketing. I have seen some. I think they skip over a true newbie’s starting point. So whenever someone brand new comes to me, I’ll finally have somewhere to point them.
Once that’s done, I will be able to map out complete business models – like we have with Ghostwriting Cash, and PLR ATM. I want to do other business models for people because I feel like even if it’s not a business model I personally PREFER, one thing I AM good at is teaching people in eBooks and video courses, so I can show people how to do things.
I also mapped out the first month’s worth of toys for my new toy site! I plan to do a video and text review on almost every post. I sure wish I had YouTube back but I guess the other sites will work for now
#4 – I implemented a favicon!
My friend Dick pointed out that he had a bunch of tabs open and had to go through all of the plain favicon’s to find my site. He sent me a link (FaviconGenerator.com) to a favicon maker. I had actually done this before but the favicons are so tiny I never could create one I liked.
A favicon, by the way, is that little graphic in the browser tab next to the site name. Gmail has a little red and white envelope, for example. So I played around with it and I found one I liked. From now on, you’ll see a cute red and yellow (my two favorite colors) sunshine with a smiley face (can’t really see that) to represent my site.
My Mom always calls me her Rae (that’s how you spell my middle name) of Sunshine. And I hope I’m that to some others who feel like they’re in the dark when it comes to Internet Marketing, so I chose that to depict my domain. Now you can find me in your tabs
Okay tomorrow’s New Year’s Eve – PLEASE be careful if you go out. Not just if YOU drink, but also beware of other drink and drivers. So dangerous! I never get out or have my kids on the road. Not worth the risk. Stay safe!
Tiff

Wow, Tiffany, you’re really getting yourself ready for the new year. I actually wrote about your 365 day challenge on my site yesterday too. My commitment is made and now I’m doing the prep work so I can get started on Monday (I’m not working Sunday) without having to think of what I want to start with.
2012 is going to rock!
It sure is Leslie! I can’t wait!
Good Post!
Thanks for all your hard work – I always enjoy your posts (and newsletters).
Have a Good New Year’s Eve tomorrow.
You too Jamie! Stay safe
Happy New Year. The favicon link could not have come at a better time. It is on my to do list for a project I am currently working on. I lost all my bookmarks when my drive crashed so I would have had to go hunt for favicon generator. Also, Dick made so much sense as I never thought of favicons in that way. I always just thought of them as a form of branding but never connected the dots on its usefulness in the scheme of things. Will git’er done. Thanks
I never pay much attention to them – or I thought I didn’t – but I do like seeing my gmail envelope and knowing right away.
Best of luck with the new Toy Test Drive! I know you’ll do awesome!!!
Thanks James!
I like it already (your toy site). I like how you are making it personal and base from the experience with your own toy purchases from your kids. I also like the idea of donating toys to the women’s shelter. Awesome!
Thanks Zoe!
Hi Tiffany! I’m so looking forward to the 365 Day Challenge. I’ve dedicated part of today to deciding how much time I can devote each week to each projects.
I’ve also (after spending TONS of time reading your posts, and others) decided to purchase “Bring the Fresh”, and will incorporate that into my Challenge. I am going to dedicate myself to going through it as you did – just do it exactly as they say, and keep moving forward. I will buy that today, and read through the quick start guide, and set up my goals.
I am going to make 2012 my best year EVER!
Go for it Becky!
I had to giggle at Tiff’s Toys…and you know why. LOL
It all sounds great. I’m really looking forward to the New Year, being me, getting more focus on just a few areas and kicking it in gear.
I think it’s been awhile since I’ve been this excited. I don’t really get depressed, but I’ve been very hum-drum for awhile. Ready to change that too.
Let’s Do It!
lol yep I thought the same.
Wow, Tif, I really don’t know how you do it. I’m looking forward to your training programs. At one time you were going to set something up for us seniors (using your mom to teach). I’m not crazy about PLR but do like to do the product sites. It’s interesting you talk about people stealing your material. How do you know that? I’ve bought many programs but feel I still know so little about the truth of IM. Looking forward to your Enlightment.
Yes Cathy Mom is going slower and concentrating on ghostwriting only for now. I get Google alerts. in the past, whenever I share my affiliate sites, i see my own readers (a few) make a copycat site and the words are changed around but you can tell they swiped my articles. Shady. lol
A very on message post. You are closing the year with yet another useful and actionnable post. Thank you for all your help over the last year. People forget that most people who work from home either on or offline need the very real interaction you give. I find that despite the quality or quantity of your messages in their every form are welcome for their ‘own sake’ if you know what i mean. People can pick and chose what is relevant to them for example today i used your favicon link So THANK YOU
I still cannot figure out how you cram so much in you working life I am sure you make Honey do most of the work HeHe
So have a lovely celbration NYE and please continue being YOU in 2012 – Health Wealth and Happiness in whichever order you want
Charles
LOL How’d you know Honey’s the workhorse behind this operation?
I work all day but break often. Works for me!
Hi Tiffany,
I noticed the favicon right away. Very cool about the resell PLR. I am going to be doing something similar but I’m doing it as a membership site with some things that can be purchased solo. Still deciding on all the specifics though and then some niche PLR sites that focus on one topic coming up next. I already had the domains but am now trying to get everything together. I’m working on several new things, hoping to make 2012 even more productive and it sounds like you really have 2012 mapped out. Sounds good about donating the toys
Best wishes with all your projects.
~Alice
Thanks Alice and you too!
Happy New Year Tiffany! The same to your Mom!
Honestly I think being tagged with “folksy” and a sharer of “life lessons” is a huge compliment. To me that translates to human, real and trustworthy ! Please don’t change.
Sandy
I do too that’s why it didn’t bother me
I’m glad you post all this stuff, cuz it’s so hard to keep up with everything you’re doing… sometimes I have to read it twice! Really, motivates me to work past my 8 hour job and get some stuff done on my sites too. Hope you have a happy and productive New Year!
Thanks Chris – I hope you do, too!
I love it!
I’m in for the slacker productivity challenge. BUT we have to work 7 days a week?
365 Work days with a day off every 4 years?
eek?
BTW as a vegetarian you can’t eat elephants unless they are chocolate or fudge or whatever.
Hehe!
HAPPY FOLKSY NEW YEAR !!!
Alex
No you don’t. I do – but I also take days off. I double up on work – or triple up – to have days off when I need them. That’s why a slacker list is so important
Elephants in chocolate mMmmmmm. LOL! Happy new year!
Hi Miss Tiffany,
Like the fact that you did your own graphics on your toy site. That appeals to me because all my life I have been a DIY’er.
I also like the favicon. I always thought that you had to be a giant like Google or Facebook to have one. My thanks to Dick and you for sharing.
Best of Luck and Happiness in the New Year.
Mel
Yes me too mel. I wish I was more experienced w/graphics but I just have no desire to learn LOL!
Hi Tiff
Totally impressed with your plans for the New Year! I love your idea for the toy site as well, that’s a great idea.
Many thanks for all your help during the year, the info, the sharing and caring. Looking forward to 2012. Hope you and your family have a very safe and happy New Year, enjoy your black eyed peas and collard greens and hope that they continue to bring you good luck throughout the year. xo
Thank you Jan! I hope you have a wonderful 2012 too
Hi Tiffany:
Good Luck on your new Toy site for 2012. Hope everyone has Happy and Prosperous New Year. Take Care.
Thanks Sam! You too!
Tiff, I love your folksiness. I was checking the spelling of folksiness in Google and came across this definition:
1. Simple and unpretentious in behavior. 2. Characterized by informality and affability: a friendly, 3. Modest; low-key
These of some of the reason why I follow you. I feel I can relate to you.
Best of luck in 2012, especially with the Resell Rights store.
Chis
Thanks Chris
I love my folksiness too LOL But I will admit it turns me off sometimes from others so I totally understand it. I love the definition too!
Tiff, I think you are a grown up kid at heart. Admit it, you want all those toys and dolls for yourself to play with.
I am hoping to actually focus next year. I have a successfull online store selling one physical product and because of the success I have enjoyed with that over the last 4 years I have flitted around like the proverbial butterfly making money here and there by luck not judgement.
So my focus areas will be:
1 Affiliate Marketing
I am going to totally revamp some of my existing sites in the aim of making them profitable and then to create new sites
2 Continuing to nurture my main business site and it’s clientele.
3 Using more outsourcers and service providers to lighten the load.
For the first 3 months I will concentrate on updating those old sites. New themes, better SEO and promotion with new content.
I have a list of weekly and daily tasks taking shape ready for next week.
For the rest of the year I will build out a new niche site each month.
I haven’t planned much for the 1st week of 2012 as we are out on Monday visiting relatives. I need to get blood tests on Tuesday AM, I have a Doctor appointment Wednesday PM and a hospital appoinment Thur AM. I think this will give me 2 and a half days only to work as there is a lot of travel involved, I am planning to outsource some work to Fiverr to help.
I do, Jean! LOL I love playing with some of my kids’ stuff. Enjoy your time with your relatives! And good luck with the dr appointments and tests. Fingers crossed for all good results!
Hey Tiff,
Your new site sounds like a great idea – very personable, love it!
I haven’t gotten around to finding domains and themes etc. yet but I’m going to start on the content so that I can keep up the momentum.
The resell PLR idea is great – I remember those long nights trying to get enough content up to open my store. Resell PLR would be great for those wanting to get content up quickly and get their stores filled.
Can’t wait to get started with the challenge! I purchased a new diary and lots of legal pads so that I can get planning. It will be great to watch you go through it too – keeping me inspired!
Happy New Year to you and your family and best wishes for 2012!
Thanks Nathan! I think it’s so fun to launch a new site and know it’s going from ZERO to something in 12 months’ time. Happy New Year!
Nathan – I didnt know you were part of the Tiff Dow family! Hehe. I like you even more now! Your PLR is badass! I can’t get enough!
Tiff, hope you have a great new year! Can’t wait to get started with 2012, I havent made my goals yet or signed up to the Warriors Forum but I will as soon as Ive decided what I want to do for 2012.
Nathan’s like my little brother to me. LOL A brother I never had
I hope you have a great 2012 too Mitch!
I think you did great with the graphics for the new site. And it makes me feel okay with my efforts…I do it the same way with Paint, etc. I figure if you can do it, I can get away with it too. LOL.
Yeah it works okay
Eventually if the site takes off I can pay for something snazzy
Tiff,
Make sure you throw a DIME in the black-eyed peas!! It’s suppose to be good luck (just don’t eat it if you happen to spoon it up).
Have a great New Year’s. Looking forward in working with you in 2012
John
Never heard of that! I’m too much of a germaphobe to do that! LOL! Happy New Year!
Love the idea of the reseller site. Those type of packages make life so much easier. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Clara!
Happy New Year, Tiff!
Looking forward to 2012, and your “folksy-ness” is one reason I continue to follow what you do! It’s the “I’m a real person like you!” that keeps me encouraged and coming back for more!
Thanks for all that you do–and for who you are–to all of us!
Wishing you the BEST in 2012!! Rock it!
Thanks Linda
Wish you the best 2012 too!
Happy New Year everyone, Like your favicon Tiffany really stands out Mine are on on WP sites but having trouble with html sites. Never mind, In your newbie guide, could I ask for a set routine, for adding plugins and other stuff that’s required that you do, because I’m amazed you got 6 bot visits in such a short time. Takes me months…. Have a Great New Year and a Fruitful 2012
Kind Regards
Dick
Sure Dick! I didn’t even link to it from my blog or anything so I was surprised too
I will list what I use in the newbie guide for sure. Thanks for the favicon info!
tiff
I am soo looking forward to the new year and this challenge. It is amazing how many people struggle to stay focussed on a particular task. Hopefully being accountable will help keep us all on the straight and narrow.
I wish you and your family a very happy New Year. Good luck to everyone in the Challenge and a prosperous 2012.
Victoria
Happy New Year Victoria!
Nice site…as always!
2012′s gonna be a great year…
1. New Job – I find out Tuesday or Wednesday if I have a new job…5 day work week, 2 days off during the week, home every nite (tough to find in a truck driving job but it’s happening!)
2. New Eating Plan – Yes, I’m finally going to make a focused effort on changing my eating habits without ever again feeling deprived (a main reason I refuse to diet!)
3. New Business goals – Already joined your challenge Tiff. Working on getting my first steps towards my goals done.
I’m SO ready to rock and roll this year…2012…yep, it’s a ME year!
Debi
Hey Debi! Fingers crossed for you on #1 and the others of course but short term
Why do you assume your unsubscriber is a “he”? The comments sounded “very femine to me . . . like “meow, meow, meow”
I am male, and a long time subscriber. I like
your message, its content and delivery and have recvommended same on more than one occasion to others.
No it was a man’s name ie: John like name.
But I’m glad other men and women like my message
Great job! It’s easy to feel your energy and enthusiasm!
I am a “doer”, but a listener first. I like someone who is talkative about their business and life lessons. I thoroughly enjoy all your reads and actually look forward to more learning.
Thanks Cheryl! I agree
Hey Tiff – Happy New Year to you and a very big THANK YOU! I wanted to let you know I appreciate your blunt and matter-of-fact way of talking and explaining things, but you are right – you can’t be everything to everyone so it’s not worth the worry.
I also want to comment on the Toys site. I have my own site obviously but as for affiliate marketing I still have some kind of disconnect with how it gets going…and you have just given me the first insight and I think I just heard a “Click.” To see the inception of the page and the very first post is exactly what I needed to see. Without all the static of drop-down menus, products, reviews, etc…the simple page made me see it isn’t so daunting.
I think if you did a project showing your step by step process as you seem to be doing with us, you would make a great new info product. I know I will be back (as usual) to see the progression of how you started with just one page and one post and get a feel for it as we wait for it to “blow up.” =)
I also wanted to as you how/where on the WP site do you upload the flavacon so that it shows on your page. I think I did it once but can’t remember and would like to know if you might post a quick video on that, if nothing else it would give you another great blog post.
Thanks for all you do, I will be working on my goals for the new year and hope to be successful and I’m going to keep using you as my model-so strike a pose!
It may seem like nothing to you – but to me – it is suddenly something that I think I might consider this next year…affiliate marketing and an amazon page.
Hey Bea! I think that link to the favicon generator tells you right where to add it. I actually didn’t have to re-add the code this time because I did it ages ago. One thing i CAN say is do what my mentor Craig taught me – ALWAYS copy your existing code to a separate document (txt) so that IF you screw up your code, you have a backup waiting for you. I love affiliate marketing for some reason. But only when it’s something I truly buy and enjoy – toys!
Hi Tiffany,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Being many hours ahead of you it will be new year here in just under 9 hours.
I like your favicon but isn’t it a Hasbro toy? I also like folksy and communicative and real down to earth honesty and things we used to have before the politically correct and all the rest of the weirdos took those plain ordinary feel good things away from us.
For me New Year will mean going to bed and just getting into a nice deep sleep before some idiot starts a ton of fireworks going. It used to be so nice when we only had them once a year on Guy Fawks night, or to those of us with lesser class cracker night.
Anyway enough with the whingeing, have a great New Year and I can tell your new site is already a winner.
Bye for now ~~~~~~~~~~
Happy New Year Maureen! Is it a Hasbro toy? LOL! I haven’t seen that. I found it on a free clipart site – it’s a sun with a smiley face in it. I hear ya about the PC people. Ick! I’m with you on New Years. I never stay awake for it anymore. Better to wake up refreshed on January 1st than tired and grumpy!
You’re emails are a little different to others, not just folksy. Very personal but like ‘em, don’t like ‘em — your good reputation precedes you.
Quite a different approach to Amazon sites (a person?!) so will be interested to hear how that one does. Thanks for sharing what most keep secret!
Would be (cheekily) interested in hearing your plan to rank?
Thanks Alan
I know folksy to me means “down yonder” and stuff LOL! But maybe my “y’all” speech gets him
I don’t have a plan to rank. Just like I don’t here. I just create real content from my blunt perspective and if people like it, they can take it and if they don’t, they can click out. LOL! Google has me listed though so that’s nice. I made some video of a toy review last night – so I’ve already got some content prepped.
Howdy Tiff,
I added my schedule, but I’ll repeat it here.
This year I’ll be starting my own PLR store targeting the Christian Niche.
I am committed to creating 5 articles per week,
One report per week,
Ten autoresponder messages per week.
I am also committed to updating my blogs once per week.
My workweek consists of only 5 days because I plan to use the other two days for Family, Worship and Rest.
Great niche Buck and I know it’s a BIG niche! You might want to put together a free report explaining to that particular audience what your Christian PLR is and how they can use it and send it out free in an introduction email to many sites in the niche who aren’t familiar with it. A weekly schedule with rest is great and goes right along with what we discussed in the Southern Hospitality thread! So enjoy it
Hi Tiff,
Love your new toy site idea. It looks like a winner to me:)
Thanks for the favicon link. I will have fun with that.
I’m not on the Warrior Forum, so I’ll commit here.
My focus will be in these areas:
1. Creating products – WP themes, Flip sites, PLR, Zazzle products
2. Affiliate sites
3. Eliminating what I no longer enjoy & organizing the rest
Daily tasks:
1. Write daily – either blog posts or PLR
2. Work on product creation so that I have at least 1 new product each week
3. Create a system. Each day I will spend time cleaning out my computer or putting together a binder.
Happy New Year Tiff and Friends!
Pat
Happy New Year Pat! Sounds like a good plan!
Thanks, Tiffany, for your 365 day challenge. I signed on over at the Warrior Forum. Consistency is just so hard! I made my daily targets really small. They’ll add up.
Good deal! I saw some really ominous ones in there for people who look like they’re overdoing the slacker idea
How did the googlebots find your toy site Tiff? BTF tactic, special plugin or are you just lucky? LOL And I thought static pages were harder to promote than blogs, or is that just guru brainwashing?
So as part of my plans for the new year, I’m going to build a list(scary for me)!. I can’t afford a service right now so I’m going to use Listwire, which seems pretty good. However, Gary Ambrose owns that and he’s what I would call a scummy marketer. Anyone know if it’s possible to use the service without being on his list or is that why it’s free? lol On a side note, speaking of scummy marketers, I just found out via a sales page that Shawn Casey (another scummy marketer) lives somewhat near me. Ewww, creepy.
No clue! I registered the domain at Godaddy. I stuck it on my Hostgator account. I did one page that I made the sticky. Now I do have that list of pings I mentioned, so maybe that’s key? I don’t know. Here’s a download of the list if you want it: http://www.tiffanydow.com/gifts/pinglist.zip How about MailChimp for free email autoresponders? I hear about that a lot. I don’t know Shawn or Gary. lol
Wow, thanks for the ping list, that’s really cool of you!
Ok, I have been trying to figure out what I was going to do for 2012. I haven’t written in your WF yet because I haven’t figured out a lot of what I am doing. But, I know some of it:
1. 1. PLR – 2-3 per week
2. Affiliate Marketing – 1 affiliate page for my site per week
find products to promote
plot the pages
3. Articles for Squidoo – 1 article a week minimum
4. Create a group of Zazzle products from at least one photo per week.
5. Work on a product at least 1-3 hours per week.
Now this seems doable. My problem is that I don’t know how I am going to set up my PLR site completely even though I have had it since your PLR challenge. I have very little idea about how I am going to do the affiliate pages. I know how to write blog posts for the pages but not how to set up the pages themselves.
I have been studying various books and such trying to figure all of this stuff out.
Glad you’re making your way through it Gma!
Tiffany,
Great posts today. I have been trying for the past 45-minutes to get onto WF in order to post my CS for this week – with no luck. Is there anywhere I can post it?
Happy New Year’s Eve from me to you and from Happy to Honey.
Happy New Year! You can post it here: http://www.tiffanydow.com/blog/ready-for-a-365-challenge-for-2012/
Happy New Year!!
I am looking forward to the challenge. I have spent the last two days setting up a wp site for my church. I have made it much more personal than some other church sites I have seen. I worked long and hard but you know what? I did it!! I don’t know what I was so scared about…I was just paralyzed. lol Now I can get my sites up and running this next month. I will be able to go faster and easier the next couple of times. Anyway, here it is to see http://immanuelbaptistnewsletter.com. Even hooked up aweber. Whoo Hoo! I still have to clean up the clutter on one of the aweber msgs but my eyes are crossing lol
Thanks for inspiring me!
So, on to WF to post for the next challenge.
Look at you Fran! On a hot streak!
Very much looking forward to this challenge! I’m very excited about 2012, especially when connected with someone like you who is so willing to share your knowledge and experience. I hope you have a wonderful year – you deserve it!!!
Thanks! It’s starting off rocky but I’ll survive it!
Hey Tiff,
I love, LOVE the idea of Toy Test Drive. I have been doing something similar with one of my sites for a little over a year, and it has been working out pretty well. The only difference is that my site focuses more on Christmas.
Also, I really like your new favicon. I thought it was different, but I wasn’t sure until you mentioned it.
I am looking forward to the challenge and following along with how others are doing with it as well.
Hope you have a WONDERFUL year in 2012!
Thanks Deidre me too!!
