What’s a Typical Tiffany Dow Work Day?
I got an email today that read:
“I’ve been meaning to get on the ball with affiliate sales for the holidays this year and I have had plans laid out to start this and that and none of it gets finished. I work as a small business consultant and have several clients at a time, it really is like working 3-4 jobs at once and I just have to make the time to work on my internet business. I’m curious though, could you clue us in to what a typical day for Tiffany Dow looks like? Kind of a play by play of what you do on most work days?”
Oh that may not be a good idea and here’s why. In the beginning, I was a do it myselfer. I wrote everything myself. I tried handling technical tasks myself. I only had 1 brain and 2 hands, and that doesn’t take you very far. So it was longer and harder to get up and running. So if you’re in that spot and see my spot now, you might get discouraged if you forget that I was once where you are now – so if you read further, keep that in mind – promise me.
Now that I AM up and running, life’s a whole lot easier – and much of that is because I have a list now. Let’s take Monday as an example. I woke up and did NOT feel like working. Still, I wanted it to be a very profitable day – so what did I do?
I emailed my list saying, “I hate Mondays and I bet you do too – so it’s buy 1 get 1 free day at the PLR Mini Mart.” They could buy any amount and get the same or lesser amount free. I made a little under $1,000 Monday. Thanks, list!
Some days I feel more motivated and productive than others, so not all days are the same. But here’s what a typical work day looks like for Tiffany Dow:
I wake up and while my kids are getting ready for school, I spend 1 hour answering emails and checking stats everywhere (Squidoo, Amazon, HostGator etc). I also balance my checkbook for my business and personal accounts each morning.
After carpool, I either nap for 3 hours or, if I’m on a non-nightowl schedule, I work (like today). It depends on what I need to get done. Today after breakfast, I built 3 lenses and sold them – it’s 10 AM and I’ve made $327 this morning so far.
Right now I’m about to work on some list emails I had started but not finished (probably take me 30 minutes for that). Then I’ll finish some PLR packs I had rusting away and never completed (spend maybe 1 hour on that). I hope to work on my info products I have today too – I’m chipping away at that outline little by little.
In between all of this, I hate to admit it, but I head to MindJolt to play video games. I like Word Drop the best. If I want to outsource some articles for traffic, I do it. If I need graphics, I don’t struggle to learn how to do it, I outsource it.
I’ll take breaks during the day – to eat or watch one of my Tivo’s shows. I quit when I feel like quitting. That might mean 11 AM or it might mean 9 PM. Just whatever suits my energy level and mindset.
So there are no hard and fast rules to live by with schedules. It’s one of the biggest perks of working at home for yourself. No lunch hour, no start and quitting time. No tasks I MUST do – if I feel like building lenses, I do that. If I feel like helping out in the Warrior Forum, I do that.
Now let me show you what a typical day was like for Tiffany Dow, the ghostwriter:
Wake up at 6 AM, check emails from clients and work for 1 hour. Come home from carpool and work from 8 AM to 8 PM on other people’s stuff. Why so nose to the grindstone?
Because there was ZERO residual income for me. I worked, earned, spent, and had to work more to spend more for bills, food, or whatever. If I quit working, I had NO money coming in.
As I showed you on my blog during those 30 days I took off, I’ve created a nice little residual income stream that made me $200 a day on average without me doing ANY work.
You can do this too. Here’s my PayPal income for this week, starting with Sunday:
Tuesday – $470
Monday – $944
Sunday – $112
$1526 for 3 days – not bad, right? And if you count today, it makes $1853 – and this doesn’t include my ClickBank or Amazon earnings or AdSense, etc. Just direct PayPal payments.
To the person who wrote me that email – I was in your shoes once, too. Make SURE you take the time to put yourself as a client FIRST and get your business going. Once you have it set up, you’ll have my kind of day – not the kind where you feel exhausted working for other people.
Tiff

Thanks Tiff, you’re day is quite interesting.
That’s the kind of day I’m really looking forward to. I do believe that being in a position to be able to forget tasks you don’t feel like that day, and work on tasks you want to work on, will make you a lot more productive in the end.
That’s the kind of lifestyle that I’m blogging towards. As long as I can earn enough to pay my bills and food, I’m satisfied. But first I think I have to work through the hard days.
Thanks Tiff for the real story on your typical day. I love learning from you and it’s great to see how much balance you have in your life!
What happened here? Today’s the 26th Nov 2009.
Hi Tiff, I still use my 10 Minute plan that a young lady gave me.
Norman
Bravo!
May I add,
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving Greg!
I received your e-mail about the 52 week Squidoo challenge and frankly didn’t think much about it, but I did save the e-mail as a good project to kick off the year. I recently had an opportunity to reread the e-mail and to view one of the videos that you produce and I was so impressed that I spent the rest of the day viewing all of your videos.
I have been slogging around on the internet for almost a year now with very little to show for my efforts. I have made all of the desperation moves most newcomers make in an attempt to create something from nothing, (and have the receipts to prove it).
Your 52 sites in 52 weeks theory makes lots of dollars and sense and I would like to join your merry band. If you would please send me the “Outline”, I heard mentioned in one of the videos along with any additional links to other information required I would appreciate it.
Question:
Is IPK a need-to-have or nice-to-have tool to successfully complete the challenge?
Regards;
Allen
Hi Tiffany,
I guess your ‘do what I feel like doing’ includes
re-publishing interesting posts! Today it’s Thanksgiving in July and I’m enjoying the sunshine in Seattle … another perk that comes with having good stuff to recycle!
Like Web Career Girl said, that’s where I want to be … it’s true that you’ve paid your dues but you’ve been a smart marketer too …
You deserve your success,congratulations!
Fran
Tiffany,
Thank you for this article. It is inspiring and gives me hope I will someday get there, too.
I would like to have the outline mentioned by Allen for 52 sites in 52 weeks. I would also like to have more information about building and selling Squidoo lenses. I love building them and would enjoy making some money that way, too.
Where do I go for that information?
Thanks,
Linda
Tiffany,
I forgot to ask you this: How often do you build Squidoo sites to sell? Is this a big portion of your income online, or a way to generate small amounts when needed?
Thanks!
Linda
Hey Linda!
I don’t do that anymore – people still do, but I moved away from it for the most part. Just focusing on other things
Tiffany, I thought you said that in your typical day, you wrote 3 lenses and sold them. But in your response to someone’s comment, you said that you moved away from doing this now. Could you clarify?
That post is from 2009 Cindy so I was building lenses for others then and it’s not a part of my business now
Wow!
(I’m speechless.)
Love to be in the same sort of position your in Tiff.
Hhhmmm… One of these days..i’ll get there!
You will Harj! It’s doable
I like the part about the 3 hour nap, lol, lol. How do you get SO much done plus include your family (and Honey) PLUS a 3 hr. nap. Is there a time warp there in the south that adds extra hours into your day.
I LOST 3 hours today after I fired a guy who won;t show up to my site sober
You Slay me Tiff…
LOL That’s an old Tiff day – no naps now. It sucked being a night owl!
I guess it’s nose to the grindstone for you and there’s immediate reward for you in terms of $$$ coming in. I’m still striving for my breakthrough in terms of earning cash online, so motivation is sometimes not as compelling as it could be!
What about last weekend, Tiffany, when that obnoxious fellow threatened you online? Does something like that throw you making work difficult or impossible?
Yep I’ve been there on motivation John
No that threat didn’t impede my progress. Something that WOULD would be if a long term subscriber left me because he’she felt I was now not good for them. That’s something that would hurt more than a childish threat lol
Good on ya Tiffany for your robustness and for your sense of perspective. When God made Texans he really did throw away the mould!
I had to laugh at the 3 hours nap because I too was thinking how do you it everything into your day and nite. I find myself working some nites to 12 or 1 in the morning so I will nap when the baby naps during the day, but having a 2 year old under my feet during the day makes it tough to stay focused.
Thanks for re-sharing this. By the way, how do you re-share these things. Do you have newer subscribers on a schedule that get a repeat of posts from the past???
vAL
It’s part of my follow ups probably
Absolutely nothing wrong with three hour naps in the mornings. Being a night owl myself I can relate and often do most of my work between midnight and dawn. The beauty of the online WAH business is being free to set your own schedules and not be dictated to by some employer, not too mention avoiding those traffic snarls 9-5ers must suffer every day. An added benefit is the great friendships we make with people on opposite sides of the world. Just today I had a lass in Greece post a comment on an article in one of my health sites then follow up with an email request to do a guest post. Life is full of little joys.
Best wishes to all for a safe and happy festive season.
Man you inspire me so much Tiff!
Thanks for sharing
Hi Tiffany,
How do you go about selling squidoo lenses? I had a look, but couldn’t find anything obvious.
Thanks
Therese
I have a plr course called Flip That Lens might be parts that are outdated but for the most part it’s the same as far as selling it.
