Where Do I Start?

All the info out there makes you want to just shake a guru and say, “JUST give me a step by step honey do list, will ya!?” So here you go. Want to be an Internet marketer?

1.) Get Aweber. Before you pick a niche – because it won’t matter which niche you’re in – I’m going to have you build a list. You’re going to be building a list and emailing your customers if you want the big bucks, not the scarce hit or miss sales. This costs $19.95 a month.

2.) Get DownloadGuard. I don’t want you going about this like an amateur trying to email each individual their product as they order (you have to sleep). And I don’t want you having to do the added task of getting them onto your list – let DLG do it for you. It’s a one time fee and you use the code on all of your domains. It’s $127 but it’s a one time cost. It’s like having an employee – only much cheaper.

3.) Pick a niche.

4.) Get a domain – domain ONLY at GoDaddy. Nothing else. Don’t upgrade it to add anything. Don’t get cutesy – use keywords in your domain. You want as much extra SEO power and findability factored in as possible when you’re new to this business. This will cost you $9.99 a year. The $1.99 domains are ONLY when you add stuff on – DON’T do it. Pay the ten bucks.

5.) Get hosting at HostGator. Get the Baby Plan – it’s the second least expensive one at $7.95 a month.

So to get started you need $164.89.

Don’t have it? Then go ahead and do #3 and start writing. At least this way, you’ll have content all ready for whenever you have saved up enough money to get started.

Can you do it without any money using web 2.0 alone? Yeah sort of. I made tens of thousands on a ghostwriting lens on Squidoo. And now more than ever – you want total control over your own content.

I’m going to write more about the next stages of your honey do list on here. Step by Step. My next blog entry will be what you need to gather content-wise for a running start, and in what order.

Great article with great info. I watched your video on list building and I like that too. Thanks for sharing. See you over on Twitter. I am @traceym09 :)

  • Mike Stokes says:

As always, you have the BEST info for people that are just getting started (and people that have been at it a while!) building an online business. You ARE the guru to the up and coming!

    Thanks!

      Thanks Mike :)

By the way, I realize some people had a problem with my last vid so I’m gonna try to record and stick it on YouTube in a sec in two halves.

  • Much needed information for a new marketer. Years ago when I first got started I had this exact same problem, too much info and not sure where to start. It’s really gotten worse since then so this is a great starting point!

  • Great post, concise, straight to the point…this is what you do: step 1,2,3,4,5. This could be the example used by professors in Blog College.

  • Robinana says:

    Tiffany,

Great advice. An email list is vital as part of an internet marketing plan.

I install WordPress blogs for free and get most of my business through my email list! I’ve built trust up with my ppl, send reliable info and do a good job. That’s all it really takes to succeed!

  • greg cryns says:

It’s easy to buy Aweber and such. Not so easy to get a large, responsive list (emphasis on “responsive”)

How much does pixie dust cost?

  • Tiff great post you always provide valuable information. I never heard of download guard before, I know we sell digital books through Clickbank for the Foundation, do you think DLG is still needed with CB?

PS we are going to feature your Social Networking for Squidoo on our Squidoo page on Change the World U it will go up in a few days, would you like to do a Podcast interview for CTWU about Squidoo?

    • Tiffany says:

How do your customers get your eBook? You send them to a download page? That leaves you open for hackers and thieves. It’s better to have a download link that expires. I use DLG with all of my CB products :) Not ready for a podcast right now, sorry – lots of changes I’m studying :)

    Hi Tiffany! =)

I’m not new to IM, but I am new to list building. I know I should do it, but it’s just so daunting! I have absolutely no idea how to build a list.

Sounds like you’re about to fix that – and for that I thank you in advance. You always provide such helpful information. Just bought your product review report last night. Great read, and picked up some tips that I never would have thought of on my own.

BTW – I use NameCheap.com for my domains. No upsells, really easy to use interface and with the current coupon, domains are just $8.81 a year. I really like their service.

    • Tiffany says:

Great Wendy! I’m glad – I love GoDaddy so I always teach that but everyone has a different preference. The guide I just released walks you through Aweber step by step. So it’ll be worth it just for that part for you :)

    • Kelly says:

I’m with Wendy. I also used to automatically register my domains through godaddy, but in light of Bob Parson’s great white hunter video — where he shows off his “talent” at killing elephants (and does it every year, apparently), I’m switching permanently to namecheap.com.

  • Wendy Yohe says:

Aweber isn’t the issue. How/where do you get subscribers to your list? That’s where I’m clueless.

  • Michael says:

Why pay $9.99 for GoDaddy, when you can get it for $6.99 (without a code)?

  • Jenni says:

Thanks again Tiffany!!! You are so helpful and knowledgeable. We are all glad that you are with us, guidng us through all of this make money online stuff…

  • Deb Lamb says:

    Hey Tiff!
As I always say, “I want to grow up and be just like you!” LOL…..that is the truth.

I love your business plan and I love what you teach and I am SO looking forward to your follow up blog posts on “where do I start”.

My problem: Not having the money to sign up for an auto responder. Yep, that’s it. I just have not really had the income and being laid off from TWO jobs and not finding work in the last year has really been a huge issue. I just can’t seem to find that “extra” money to sign up for an email program. I know I’m pretty much stuck without it but not sure how I can get past it right now. However, something will work out so I can REALLY get started growing my business. I just continue to stay positive and know that something good will happen!

Thank you for all you do and I really appreciate all the awesome knowledge you share!

Your “almost neighbor” out here in Godley, close to Granbury! Make it an awesome day dear!

    Deb :)

    • Tiffany says:

      Hey Deb!

Regarding the autoresponder – until you can afford it, you can do it manually if you need to. Although it’ll be a PITA. Set up something where they can email you for more information. Keep a spreadsheet of their name and email address and once you can afford the autoresponder system, plus them in – they’ll get a confirmation email, so if they don’t want to confirm, they won’t have to. But at the same time, you won’t lose the contact info.

      Tiff :)

PS – How you loving the chilly weather today? Brr!

    • Deb,

There is a free autoresponder service that offers much of the same features, it’s called Mail Chimp. It’s free until your list gets pretty large.

I have used it and it works great.

      Hope that helps!

  • Edie47 says:

Looks like your latest email is an older post – that is good because I need all the info I can get. One thing I really like about you is that you provide straight-up information instead of beating around the bush. Wish I had found you a year ago, I would be much farther ahead.

  • Hi Tiff,

Good info. I always appreciate all you give. Couple questions:

    1) Once I create my own product will I need another software to create my own affiliate network, other than DL Guard?

2)DLG automatically adds any new customer to your list? is that a list created at DLG or does it integrate with AWeber?

    Thanks much,
    Debbie

    • Tiffany says:

1.) No you really don’t need anything – even DLG – unless you’re talking about a PLR store. If it’s an info product, go through ClickBank.
2.) They send out the info if you plug it in, but it’s up to the customer to confirm it. It integrates with Aweber or whatever autoresponder you have.

  • Hi Tiff,

That’s helpful. So, for a PLR store that I will be creating as I have the PLR ATM training: later what software is good for setting up affiliates to help me to sell? Would DLG handle all that too?

    Thanks,
    Debbie

    • Tiffany says:

Not yet – they’re working on it. Peggy had the name of something that would work – JAM? I can’t recall now – I was gonna have to ask again when the time was right. DLG is coming out with DLG PRO which will handle affiliate sales.

  • Tiff,

That will work. By the time I need it, sounds like DLG will have it. Good enough for me.

I love this “just do this step” series. Looking forward to what’s to come :)

    Debbie

  • Tiff,

Okay, just tweeted @samstephens. We will see what he says :)

    Debbie

  • Ron Kness says:

I’ve got everything set up exactly as Tiff has laid out, except I too am using MailChimp. DL Guard was well worth the money as was Go Daddy for the domain name and HostGator for the hosting. Everything is working seamlessly toegther.

My next task is growing my list. I already have three narro0niched PRL packs up and running and I’m working on more. I concentrate on the smaller, more narrow niches instead of trying to compete with the big guns. Well see if it works out.

    Ron

    2. check!
    3. check!
    4. check!
    5. check!

    Honey I’m done! :P

  • John Stanley says:

Thanks for the kick in the old rumpola, Tiffany.

What video on list building was Tracey referring to?

    All the best,
    John

  • Harj says:

    Hi Tiff,

clicked straight here after recieving email!

I’m trying a bit of IM…But I really wished I found you earlier! You have so much to give and share..Thank you..

I’ve got aweber can get my hands on Hostgator..But DLG a big NO at the mo a tad steep for my pocket :-(
Would i need DLG? I bought your internet marketing PLR pack..Thought i will try something there with a bit of your guidance :-)

    ….Await for next your instructions.

    • Tiffany says:

You can deliver manually but make it one of your first “reinvestments” because automated delivery prevents headaches for both you AND your customers.

    • Gie Summers says:

You can try e-junkie, there’s a 1 week free trial after which you will pay $5 monthly if you got (up to a maximum of) 10 products to sell. Great for a PLR store just starting out :)

  • Paul Lester says:

    Hey Tif,

You don’t need to post this but your DownloadGuard link is bad.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    • Tiffany says:

No thanks for letting me know Paul I fixed it on my resources page so now I will go fix the one in this post ;) I deleted my link cloaker that’s why :)

  • Cyril Almond says:

Well i look at all your comments and Tiffany”s reply to
them i bought the ghostwriting course a while ago but have sat on it. I feel like the first time diver that wobbled on the edge of the diving plank I think i might try selling e,books first.
But having written one what do you require to have on your site so somebody can buy one.
I am a bit of an old newbie. but will get there.
I have listened a few teachers in my time.
    but Tiffany is the best

  • Jon says:

Excellent advice. Already use GoDaddy, Hostgator and AWeber but hadn’t heard of DLG so must look into that one.

  • Oh, darn – I had my heart set on using a weird free shopping cart, mailchomp, aol hosting, and getting my names at network solutions – now I’m all messed up! (just kidding!)
Thanks for all the great steers here – I especially love DLG.

  • Suze P says:

    Hi Tiff!
Great info! Can’t wait for the next installment. I know I should do the list building thing, but I just haven’t gotten started with it yet. I found a couple free WP plugins that have auto responders and list management features. I just can’t remember the name of them right now. LOL I set one up on one of my sites, but I haven’t really done anything else with it yet. Really simple. I also use Hostgator and GoDaddy for all my domains, and if you Google cheap domain names before you go to register your domains,GoDaddy has Adwords ads that show up for $4.95 domains. It’s only good for up to 3 domains each time, but you can use it every time you register, I haven’t run into a limit with it yet. LOL :O)

  • Hilda says:

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting for. Grab me by the hand I TELL me what to do.m I already have:

    #1
    #2 – not yet
    #3
    #4
#5 – not yet, just cancelled last week because I didn’t know what to do with it.

    I’m ready. Can’t wait for “what’s next”.

    Thank you…Hilda!
